I have an older version of this 17" HP, opening and closing it a lot resulted in the back separating into an upper and lower part at the hinge. Wouldn't buy it again.

The Woot deal for the 15" seems better. 17" laptops should be phased out except for gaming models. They're too cumbersome for travel and the extra screen size isn't much difference.
Im looking for a 17" because I need a house/upstairs/downstairs portability, I like a big screen and I dont care to take it out of the house.

300 nit is an improvement over the basic 250 nit displays out there of course but...that's still very dim. Consumers should demand better.

Does it come with a power/charging cable?

Can I go in and update to 16MB of RAM? What is current setup - 2 slots of 4MB of one slot of 8MB and I can just add another 8MB...or do I need to buy one 16MB or two 8MB chipsets?
4MB memory sticks? They are three decades old.

It comes with 2x4gb.
You can replace both modules with two 8gb for 16 total or replace one with 16gb for 20 total. Best performance comes with matched pairs but it is unlikely you would notice the difference.

Specs for this model on HP details the fact that it comes with 2x4gb

Nice price for a 17" screen. If you want USB C ports, you can buy an adapter for about 2 bucks, which is what I did on my old desktop.

Was this the same HP 17" as COSTCO had a sale on a month back?
