Vito Iacopelli's videos on youtube are really good - especially the older ones, to get an idea of where to start. Also, Serious Eats website has a lot of intro videos to help get started. Pizza Making dot com (not sure if I can link directly here) has some hard core geeks on it - but really, the youtubes is a good place to start because reading about it doesn't give you a good idea on what handling a high hydration dough is like - it's a skill and looks easy when you watch a master do it... but it sticks like a mofo and you will have MANY failures. I would get so mad when things didn't work out just right - but now I have a margarita BEFORE I get cracking and then when I do mess something up, it's easier to cope lol.

Use more flour than you think you need when starting to help keep things from sticking (yes, it will burn on the bottom and be a little bitter... when your skills improve, you can fix that later), move quickly (mis en place), always give your wood peel a little shake before throwing your pie on the deck - because dealing with a mess on a 950' oven deck is no fun, and DONT turn your back... perfection to charred to a crisp / on fire is seconds.

If you get really into it, I have a really geeky pizza dough calculator [google.com] that I put on the forums / reddit a while back and still get requests from all over the world for - but it's probably for the next level geek using a ferment / poolish when making dough. There's a guy with a great free PizzaApp+ app on ios / android to help calculate your ingredients for basic dough.

These ovens and all small pizza ovens have a few skills you need to master and then it gets a lot easier. I started a few years back and there wasn't nearly as much info out there but now YouTube is jampacked with fabulous info. There are also a few really strong Facebook groups where people are extremely supportive and can help. Start in those two areas. Get yourself a wooden peel to make the pizza on an launch, and an aluminum peel to spin and retrieve the pizza. Learn to make your own dough, it makes a world of a difference how the pizza comes out these ovens. The Ooni dough recipe is a great start, I like their cold prove dough recipe.

Love my Koda 12. I'm still sore about that other deal on the 16" for $249 that got cancelled a few weeks that, that was a steal.

Yes, it was only several weeks to a month ago? I think it only lasted a day or two before they were all sold out.

Good price on this one. If they get the 16" I might bite. I have the 12" Karu with gas burner and it's great, but would like some more room in the oven to work with.

I pulled the trigger on this 12. I'm a total n00b with a pizza oven. I do however make pizza regularly in the regular oven. Do you have some websites you can recommend for using the koda 12? I feel like between this and the ice-100 ice cream maker I purchased earlier, our summer of pizza and ice cream is set!

I recently (3 mos ago)bought the Karu 16 dual fuel. If I would have waited I definitely would have bought this oven the quality is great and at this price it's a no brainer.

Wouldn't it be nice the pictures include people so you have an idea of the relative size?

This has been one of the best cooking gadgets I've bought. Only complaint is the plastic nubbins on the end of the legs are super easy to break off. Mine is a couple years old so perhaps the newer versions have fixed this? Doesn't affect the cooking at all but can lead to scratches on whatever the oven is sitting on if that bother you.

Quick question I know this gets very hot, but would you recommend this or just cooking a pizza in a grill on a stone/steel?

This will be better as the heat comes down from the top since its so shallow. Putting a steel on the grill will result in a burnt bottom before the cheese is melted, etc.

You could buy something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Skyflame-U...B078LSSZ13

Question to those of you that own this. Where do you store it? Can it stay outside (New England weather for me). If not, do you keep in garage/basement?

Ooooo, I wasn't aware of that caveat. Good to know! Since this is about half the cost of the pizza oven now I have to consider if it's worth waiting on the 16 or settle for the 12. Thanks for your answer.
