Seems good to me, thanks OP. Nice basic set to upgrade my mom's situation, where she insists on using a 20 something inch ancient Sharp and sitting ridiculously close because she can't see anything.
This will surely be a revelation.
Rtings says it's fine but nothing special. Okay by me at $150 and our other TCL units have been excellent.
Also same price at Target [target.com]. Pretty good deal. Almost bought this last week when it was priced around $220.
No stupid he's not. I only own Tcl TVs and I've bought several for my family. They are by far the best budget tv out there.

Yes, something about defective parts on the screen part. We are buying her a new TV that is affordable for us but easy for her to use. I have been shopping around and this TV for $150 seems like a great buy for the purpose we need.

We have had 2 TCL TVs over the years and have had good experiences without any issues with them.

I find the roku interface really nice. Never had a tv with it built. I have one ready for pickup - but wont be able to get it until Wednesday I believe. My only concern with this TV is brightness/contrast. Seems to pretty nice TV however for the price - if you keep your expectations in line with price.

My husband really liked our 1st TCL Roku TV for our bedroom (where he watches TV mainly). When we decided to upgrade the TV, he bought newer version of TCL Roku TV. Our living room is older Panasonic TV with Roku stick in it. I hope you will like your new TCL Roku TV.

Since my mother-in-law watches a lot of TV after passing of her husband almost 2 years ago, I wonder if we should get her better TV than this. I mean, watching TV is one of her main hobby so I want her to be able to enjoy the experience of watching TV with good pictures. Also, although her living is specious, the TV needs to be able to fit inside the TV stand/cabinet. She has the kind with frame around the space for the TV. She doesn't really care about the TV cabinet. I wonder if it's better to get her a bigger TV than 40 inches...

From reading reviews, you may need to log into Roku account Tobe able to use Roku TV. I was comparing other TCL Roku TVs and am not really sure if those comments are about this specific TV, but I am not surprised if customers need to login to their Roku account to be able to use Roku TV even though they are using antenna only to watch TV. Some customers on Amazon seem to be upset about that.

40 is pretty small. I only want it for a small gym room. My 50 inch is kind of small for my bedroom. I suggest upgrading from a tv stand to a wall mount. Much nicer and you aren't buying TVs based on TV stand size.

Yeah, I know. It's silly to have the limitation of the size of the TV because of the TV stand although it is a nice furniture and well built. 40 inch TV looks pretty small for my mother-in-law's specious living room. She keeps saying the TV stand is heavy, so if we can move it out of her house somehow, I am willing to get her a bigger TV.

Wow, your bedroom must be big if 50 inch TV is small for the room. We have a 50 inch TV for our living room but we sit like 4 feet away from TV in our tiny living room. 😆 We first thought 50 inch TV is too big for the space but then we got to used to that big TV in the tiny living room. Lol

If i recall - watching video reviews of these - the 'inputs' are listed as tiles within the roku interface. So I guess i see why you need to log into roku. Everything must be in that interface - including picture adjustment? Honestly - for an elderly person I think that might be a good thing? "Home" always gets you back to main interface - vs - multiple inputs and whatnot. I know when my parents visit - they have no issues using my roku stick on my non-roku TV.. Unless my son switched the input to his Nintendo HDMI. This would be a good UI for elderly IMO - as everything is nice big Roku tiles.

Thanks OP, Picked one up for the kids playroom. If all they are going to do is watch Minecraft videos and Preston Plays, 1080P will be just fine!

Are you saying Roku TV is easier to use for elderly people? I don't know what kind of smart TV she has currently. She watches Netflix as much as PBS. I think they are her favorite channels.

Never owned a Roku Tv... But i find the roku interface VERY easy and consistent - as do my elderly parents when they visit. I would think 'yes'... Vs multiple input management and a complex remote. The remote on a roku TV seems very basic... I think that would be a good thing for an older user.

Looking at the remote - no numbers, no input shortcut... while that may seem bad for a power user with multiple input devices - seems great for a non-tech person that lives in the roku app space only.

Thank you for suggestions and feedback. Now, we need to think whether to go bigger size TV or get this 40 inch TV.

it's free returns within 30 days on amazon, just give it a try. no one else's opinion really matters when it comes to picture quality.
