I wonder whether other 32 amp EVSEs like this will eventually all settle in the $200 range. I would think the underlying electronics are pretty similar.
This EVSE does seem like a decent price overall, particularly because it is from Costco so you would have some confidence of warranty/return policy.
Edit: Tesla recently discontinued including their mobile EVSE with their cars, effectively increasing the car price - the reaction ultimately resulted in Tesla reducing the price of the mobile connector to $200 as a "compromise"

(The Tesla wall charger is $400 but that is a different hardwired EVSE that can support any selectable amperage up to 48amps on up to a 60 amp breaker. It does not plug into a 14-50 outlet like this one and the $200 Tesla mobile connector do. Even that $400 Tesla wall connector seems like a good price compared to other hardwire high amperage chargers.)
*Anyone if hardwiring or installing an outlet: please consult a knowledgeable electrician to make sure it's safely done

Also, have been reading that Tesla chargers, when used with an SAEJ1772 adapter don't work so well. Has anyone else here had experience otherwise?

Then scroll down thru charging products to the "On the Road" section to see pic of mobile connector for $200. (And as I earlier mentioned, it's out of stock likely till August so I've heard on other sites.)

We use a stock 30A Nissan charger both in our new home and our old home. Old home was like yours. We used a very specific cable [amazon.com] to split our NEMA 10-30 dryer outlet into a 10-30 (for the dryer) and a grounded 14-50 (for the charger). It was fine because we always remembered not to use the two at the same time.
We had the outlet installed in our new home. The circuit breaker is 30A and the outlet is 14-50 to match the charger. The wire running through the conduit is 6ga, which will let me upgrade to a 60A charger down the line.
TLDR - Don't worry about future proofing. Get the 30A charger that works for you now. Keep it as a spare/backup when you upgrade your circuit.

I find that my 16amp will easily charge my car overnight to full (at least 10% of charge per hour). Just plug in after coming home from work, unplug when you leave for the day in the morning. No need for an expensive rewiring to put a faster plug in.
