i7 12700k - not top of the line but just 1 step below it. Such a better value vs i9.
3080 - I always consider XX70 to be the minimum needed to call it an enthusiast level gaming computer. 3080 is a meaningful step up and $/FPS is still very good. 3080 Ti onwards the value proposition falls of a cliff for 'gaming'
16 GB RAM - speaking purely on gaming terms, it's enough. You won't see the quantity of RAM be a bottleneck. Very few games are sensitive enough to high speed RAM to justify higher spending. So long as the RAM is running at 3200 - 3600 you should be fine
1 TB SSD - Enough for windows + apps + 3/4 of your most played games. If space is really a constraint because of a large game library, buy an additional HDD for the not so often played games. Media can obviously stay in HDD.
Thus, in my opinion this computer makes the right compromises and strikes the right balance to call itself an enthusiast level gaming computer
This looks like the deal I've been waiting for. 12th gen intel + 3080. But think I'm going to wait on a few more comments from people smarter than me first before jumping.

With that said, what is the best source for parts to build a similar system? I hate Newegg, so let's not start there. Are there other places to get a good deal on a good system? Is cyberpowerpc.com the only other place people trust?

I would have posted the same message. I wanted to get this deal but waited too much to take time to shop around. I think, the best at this point is to wait one more week, Memorial weekend sale could bring even better deals knowing they'll want to liquidate this generation of computers as the new gen is coming very soon (from what I was told)

How likely are you going to get a better deal with this kind of specs built in?
The sandybridge cpu's and the 1070 had some pretty long legs. Time to treat yourself to a big upgrade.
But then again I'm fresh from looking at youtube reviews of a water cooled 16 core 3080 system that's entirely water cooled and gold plated for $6500, so I'm probably a bad person to ask?
Used them to get a 1070 and a 1080 when they first came out and nobody could get them retail. The OEMs have first dibs on a lot of cards.
So what you'll get is what was cheapest for them that meets the broader specs.
In their custom builds, you get to pick each and every part, but they'll cost a bit more.
One recommendation is to try and go with the case that they settled on as their standard. Their builders aren't used to all of the cases, so you may or may not get the best cable management and all features of the case handled properly.
Also, note that in most cases, presuming product comes with retail options is a mistake. I presumed one of mine came with two fans, one that comes with the case and one that came with the liquid cooler. Neither one of those comes with the OEM product, so when I added 3 fans, all I got were 3 fans, not 5. So watch that if you decide to order custom.
If you think 13th gen is amazing, then your mind is gonna be blown with 20th gen in 6-7 years
I think everything else is the same? I will always wonder if it will be the red headed step child compared to this golden boy though
