Completely agree. As an enthusiast who build computers for friends and family, if someone came to me today and asked me for a $2000 gaming computer I would point them to this. Just main components wise it's a very good deal.

i7 12700k - not top of the line but just 1 step below it. Such a better value vs i9.

3080 - I always consider XX70 to be the minimum needed to call it an enthusiast level gaming computer. 3080 is a meaningful step up and $/FPS is still very good. 3080 Ti onwards the value proposition falls of a cliff for 'gaming'

16 GB RAM - speaking purely on gaming terms, it's enough. You won't see the quantity of RAM be a bottleneck. Very few games are sensitive enough to high speed RAM to justify higher spending. So long as the RAM is running at 3200 - 3600 you should be fine

1 TB SSD - Enough for windows + apps + 3/4 of your most played games. If space is really a constraint because of a large game library, buy an additional HDD for the not so often played games. Media can obviously stay in HDD.

Thus, in my opinion this computer makes the right compromises and strikes the right balance to call itself an enthusiast level gaming computer
Raptor Lake isn't coming until 2nd half of 2022, and sources seem to put it around September. This i7 (12th gen) was released Nov 2021, placing the CPU right in the middle of the release cycle. People can continue to wait until Fall, and see if the more expensive 13th gen CPUs and Motherboards change pricing. At that point, perhaps they should wait until next year to see pricing drop even more? As for a good deal, I don't think you'll find a better sub $2k PC right now. But like with most technology, prices will likely drop over time...., so today, this is a good deal.
Use coupon code KRIPP for an additional $50 off.

This looks like the deal I've been waiting for. 12th gen intel + 3080. But think I'm going to wait on a few more comments from people smarter than me first before jumping.

Nice setup. Changing the CPU and Graphics cards were the right move, and great value. The CPU doesn't change performance much (assuming you don't plan to overclock), and the 6800 XT vs the 3070 TI is an upgrade for most games, provided you're not going to use Ray Tracing.

Personally, I would've opted for the 1TB WD Black SN770 for $49 more.

Looking a a nice gaming desktop pc as well. I saw Costco had "Lenovo Legion 7i" on sale for $1800. It has 32gb, 1T ssd, 1T hdd but a geforce 3070. Do you guys think it's worth it or do you recommend the one from the post instead?

Strictly for gaming? This one with the 3080 and 16GB of memory is going to give you a much better gaming experienced compared to the 3070 with 32GB of memory. If you don't mind AMD video cards, the build posted by ManikandanR is really good for $1581.

This build for $1680 (coupon SYKKUNO) is very nice. It's a i7 12700k, 16GB Ram, 6800XT, 1TB Gen 4 NVME, 4 TB hard drive, WiFi/Bluetooth, and a NZXT H510 case, with liquid cooling. Provided you're not running Ray Tracing, it's better than the Legion 7i you're looking at.

https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1Q9Q28

Edit: The Costco Legion i7 is also 11th Generation, and is not nearly as good as the 12th gen CPUs.

Gaming / 2d-3d animation softwares. I just was told Lenovo is not a great choice as some of the parts might not be upgradable. Too bad, I love the 90 days return policy and concierge service from Costco

Pricing considerations of this particular deal aside, this might be a good time to buy a high end gaming PC. Will give you a good few years to enjoy games at high specs and good frame rates. The price vs. performance dynamics will be very different in a few years.

That's because many developers have just started to build games in Unreal Engine 5, which was released just recently. It'll take a few years for games on UE5 to come out. Most experts' preliminary analysis on UE5 shows that it is extremely CPU resource heavy - a significant step up from UE4. Frame rates are not scaling up linearly with CPU cores, but instead are doing so with frequency, which is not a good sign in terms of CPU requirement. Last few years, CPU hasn't really been the bottleneck for gaming (unless one is gaming competitively at 1080p ultra-high refresh rate). But looks like that's about to change once UE5 games start coming out. The CPU will become a bottleneck once again; and so, one will need to really consider the CPU as well.

Today, a 'high-end' 1440p/4K gaming rig practically means a mid-tier CPU coupled with high-tier GPU. But in a few years, a mid-tier CPU won't suffice - increasing the overall cost.

Of course, UE5 is not the only gaming engine out there, but it's the most prevalent. And other engines will evolve as well to keep up in feature set.

My point is - If you want to 'luxuriate' in having a high-end gaming PC that can play most everything at maxed out settings (at least in 1440p), this is a good time to buy. A $1800 PC like this will be able to achieve that simply because we are at the end of the gaming engine life cycle. In a few years, you might find that the same can only be achieved by maybe $2500 or $3000 PC's. It'll take a few generations of CPU releases before high- end gaming isn't bottlenecked by CPU's once again. And then the cycle will repeat when the next-gen gaming engines roll out Smilie.

Thanks. for me personally, 1tb of ssd wouldn't be enough, because I plan on dual/triple booting, and these days each game takes upwards of 100gb. Since the second drive would be mostly just games and multimedia, I figured I'd put it on a 7200rpm hdd. This is my first desktop, so I might end up regretting it, but at least there are extra slots for more ssd if needed
