I have the previous version of this Gateway with the I5-10300H + RTX2060. Solid machine for the money. I upgraded the RAM to 16GB and added a 1TB NVME drive.
Plays almost anything I throw at it on 1080p medium or high. I mainly use it to play Diablo 2 Resurrected on the go.

yeah..one big thing to note though, is that this laptop is only 4lbs. those others are clunkers by that standard, at 5.73 and 5.44. so, it's a tradeoff, with other good options out there. me personally, i'll take 90% (or so) of the performance for 70% of the weight ..if i weren't already perfectly happy with my evoo lp5

Does that weight savings come out of battery life or thermal performance though?

i can't imagine the heavier laptops have significantly more runtime, with higher-powered gpus..plus, who are we kidding about "real" gamers caring that much about battery life? lol j/k..the lp5 did have an aftermarket battery available with maybe 50% more capacity at the cost of losing a 2.5" or nvme slot or something, but i can't remember exactly, but you can google for those who did the upgrade. presumably this would have something similar if one were to go looking..
thermal performance i can't speak to any of those models, but yeah in general i'd expect the bigger ones to have beefier heatsinks, etc. although this gateway, which seems to be based on a newer revision on the tongfeng chassis my lp5 is based on, does also have dual fans, lots of heatpipes, and four vent areas (two on the back, one on each side), and roughly half the bottom is mesh (rather than enclosed). i did repaste the gpu with some as7 (or something) which maybe helped temps by 10% or so..but it's still loud enough with fans at full blast that i have to use headphones, hahah.
anyway i guess to answer your question, no, i would say the weight doesn't make a significant difference in battery life or thermals, with proportionate expectations of having a smaller battery and screen. the lp5's 1660ti is roughly comparable to the other models with the 3050ti mostly (most notably just without dlss), and it can handle the thermals fine after playing for hours. a cooling pad or something probably couldn't hurt, though..

This is the one I have as well. Webcam is crappy but build is good and use it for portable tethered VR.
Maybe this question is dumb, but does the device have thunderbolt with the USB C. Would this be usable with a dock station and external monitors?
Not a dumb question. This doesnt have thunderbolt. It might be compatible with a USB-C dock if it support Displayport (DP) alt mode on USB-C, but I dont see anything on whether the USB-C port supports that, which would mean that it's not compatible with that kind of docking solution either.
It would be supported with a Displaylink USB-A dock, but you don't want that with a gaming laptop because the display output is software emulated rather than using the GPU.

1. Windows Helo IR camera
2. Fan control to keep it quiet.
3. Lighter than other gaming laptops.
4. Excellent port selection.
That's why it's slimmer than other 3050 laptops.
