The clamping voltage indicates the level of voltage surge which would cause the protection circuitry within the surge protector (typically some number of Metal Oxide Varistors or MOVs) to attempt to absorb/shunt the energy of the surge. The let-through rating defines the average amount of voltage passed to connected equipment following a surge. The lower the number, the greater the threshold of protection being provided to connected devices. Common let through voltages are 500V, 400V, and 330V.

This is definitely not the best surge protector money can buy, but is definitely a solid choice for the bargain price, This Best Buy Essentials model is essentially a re-badged version typically sold under CyberPower [cyberpowersystems.com] branding for around $20. If you've been waiting for a good deal on a "good" surge protector/power strip this is probably what you've been waiting for...

That's a completely reasonable standard, but consider that a surge protector with comparably low let-through rating and such a high joules rating would typically be in the $50+ price range. Surge protectors with large surge capacity ratings below that price point often achieve their seemingly impressive surge ratings by raising the let-through voltage.

For example, Tripp Lite, a reputable brand, has a 12 outlet surge protector regularly available below $50 with an impressive 4000+ joule rating... but at a let-through voltage rating of 800V.

At the sub-$20 price point something like this CyberPower is about the best balance of protection to be found. More protection certainly can be bought for more money.

Someone mentioned 400V which is decent. Definitely better than the other Amazon trash being pushed around recently on SD which does not even list VPR:

How does that work? My home has 120v up to 12 amps (80% of 15 amps) even if I have both lines hot, that's upto 240volts.

I heard cyberpower isn't good. I know the Costco version gets bad reviews. So it this is a rebadged cyber power then it should be just the same.

I have one of these from a previous sale having the power switch on the side instead of the top has lead to accidentally shutting it off multiple times. Those gray covers break off easily too. Definitely don't recommend.

Are you referencing the CyberPower UPS devices sold at Costco? I am unaware of HT1208-style surge protectors being sold at Costco. I have, however, seen them at Home Depot (at the aforementioned $20 price point, making this $13 a solid buy for the protection/performance).

CyberPower is a reputable brand of surge protector. Other brands to consider which sell into varying ranges from entry-level to premium would include Tripp Lite, Furman, APC, and Panamax. Functional, but more commodity brands include Belkin, GE, Philips, and Woods. One key feature that all of these share is UL/ETL listing.
