Fans are always on for mine too. Contacted Lenovo and they said it needed warranty service. They sent it back after replacing the fan (as if that would fix the fan settings). Of course nothing changed but then I noticed electrical noises and power drain even when shut down. So I sent it back in and they said they'd make sure to fix the fan this time. They've held it for weeks now 'waiting on a part'. Already past the deadline and no update from them. It's been almost 2 months since I bought the thing and haven't been able to use it. Had to contact Lenovo 10+ times because they wouldn't send the shipping label or box when they said they would, and several times they said it was already sent but they never really did. Just delay after delay and straight up lies. Nightmare of customer service - and I've been extremely patient with them. I'm definitely never buying Lenovo again

I daily a 'G2' version of this, and the fan was a huge issue until I found a video on youtube where they showed how to enable the 'processor performance boost mode' in the power option of win10. Seems Lenovo has this hidden/disabled, and set at 'Aggressive' so the fans would go max speed whenever the CPU did anything.

Once I made the registry change I changed the setting from aggressive to efficiently enabled, and the fan now only cuts on when I' really pushing the machine.

Try BB again -- phone chat worked for me and several other SDers were able to get it also. Have the TD page up when you call BB so you can reference the model, their item number, the price, and that it is in stock. And as has been mentioned tigerdirect.com is a merchant that BB will price match.

I have been given the runaround by chat / phone and in-store in this. Store Manager in BB claimed he couldn't match due to significant difference in price and asked me to contact online Customer Care and not general Sales.

Their automated phone system is useless, and I got a callback from someone who handles appliances when the request was for laptop purchase help.

BB has decided that customer will eventually lose patience and drop. I got an order confirmation from TD but don't have hope until I see shipping info. Also, at this price, wanted to get more than one - one from each retailer if that's an option. 🤞🏻

I was just able to do a price match via chat. It was pretty straightforward. On a side note: Also picked up this Dell openbox for $445.99 - Any thoughts on the Dell?

Before playing with the registry, try the instructions from Lenovo in this document and let us know if this works. I have one on order from the bestbuy price match and did some searching on the issue. This popped up. It would seem that pressing FN+T allows you to toggle the intelligent cooling feature, but it is not clear how that works with AMD processors.

I was curious if you are able to adjust how much memory the integrated AMD graphics (APU) consumes. Do you know if the BIOS allows you to change it?

Interesting find, Jackalope. Since this machine has an AMD processor (so there's no auto mode), it sounds like he would just need to click on the battery status icon in the Windows notification area and adjust the slider - - if it's there.

No, fan is always going to be on. It will be quieter after the mod since it won't turbo up and get as hot, but the noise is still there. This may be ok for some people and it would be ok for me but my particular unit had a very bad high pitched noise to it :/

I am currently running on battery and did a Windows Update. Fan is a lot quieter and laptop is running quite well. I will need some time to get a better idea.

Yes, that is the standard Battery / Power optimization available. I see it is set to Better Performance by Default. The next lower level is Better Battery. I was able to tweak the registry in my 5 year old Asus ZenBook and saw the similar Processor Boost Settings.

It is using 2GB and shows 6GB available for system use and with no other applications running it is already at 3GB / 6GB. I have not explored yet changing the max video memory settings.
