This sander is a piece of shit. I'm on my 3rd replacement and they all do the exact same thing - pull SUPER hard. You can't sand where you want to sand you have to sand where the sander pulls or it chatters and vibrates beyond usability. Idk what people are doing that they say it's "great" but I have to assume it's the lightest of work ever.

I already have a couple corded sanders, this thread was for a cordless sander. The position that I should trust a Ridgid tool review from someone who didn't purchase the Ridgid tool is... unique.

If you don't like their tools, cool, there's a color for everyone - but the brand is the first word in the thread title. Cordless sanders just seem like a weird thing to try trolling folks over.

I have this and I also agree that this is not a good orbital sander.

You can see it doesn't stack up well against other brands in the Project Farm testing:

Great sander. I lucked out getting it and the octane trim router for $100 back on Groundhog Day. Both are very useful, solid tools.

You can refer to https://slickdeals.net/f/15763828-hack-ridgid-18v-brushless-cordless-2-tool-combo-kit-with-hammer-drill-impact-driver-2-batteries-charger-and-bag-r9208-123?src=SiteSearchV2Algo for more details. Order the combo kit, select this sander as the free tool. By "hack", you just keep the sander and cancel/return the combo kit. The price for the sander will be $47.7 as the screenshot shows

I couldn't agree more. This thing is so unbalanced and a horrible experience to use. I think the original Porter Cable 330 I have has spoiled me (wish it was cordless!). I love the ridgid line but this and that crappy (handheld) vacuum are the worst tools.

Cordless sanders always seemed counterintuitive to me. I'm a believer in always trying to connect my sanders to at least a shop vac otherwise you're flinging dust everywhere. In that case buying something corded (usually more powerful AND less expensive because no batteries) makes more sense since you need a power source for the vacuum anyway.

I have the 6in variable speed orbital sander from DTO from the last recon flash sale. It doesn't pull and the variable speed offers great control. Highly recommend!

I have this sander and it's junk. As someone else mentioned, it pulls really hard. It's just not strong enough to maintain the high rpm/vibration while in use. I only use this when I cordless is my only option. Otherwise it's my corded DeWalt every time.

Agree 100%. I hate this this thing. I've gone back to my corded dewalt also.

So you say it's great while everyone else says it's complete, trash. It's Ridgid, so I'll assume the people saying it's trash are correct.

I'll definitely make it a point to try it out early and see how it's acting. I saw the project farm tests last week too (i'd been shopping for a ROS for a bit now) that gave me some pause too. After that review I'd been looking at the Bosch 18V which has stellar reviews, but not seeing it lower than the $129 price point (although that does come with a 4ah battery). I have plenty of Ridgid batteries already, that price difference is pretty substantial.

If it was $90 Ridgid vs. $130 Bosch (with battery) I think I'd go blue - but on this I'm in the Ridgid for like $55 which is an awesome price, hoping Project Farms sample size of 1 comes into play. I see plenty of good reviews on the Ridgid ones too. I definitely appreciate folks input on these here though, and i've seen plenty of cases were the tool is either awesome or trash (based on some defect) and finger crossed that distinction makes itself apparent out of the gate.
