If you are going to use special screws (which you are going to have to do for any "hidden" deck screw), this seems like this is a really slow way to do it compared to other brands like Camo.

Comparing it to the Camo system, the Kreg looks like it would take 3-4 times longer, and on top of that the proprietary Kreg screws are normally a lot more expensive than the proprietary Camo screws.

Only plus I see is the Kreg tool can be used with pretty much any decking, where Camo uses a different tool for different deck spacing/widths. But when I think about it, even that isn't as big a deal as it sounds. A DIYer is probably only going to build a few decks, and most likely they will use the same decking to match. For a pro, owning a couple of different sized tools at $50 each is nothing compared to saving hours of labor on each job, and after the first deck, you'll save that much on screws.

Am I missing something here, or is that why the Kreg is being clearanced out?

BTW, if you buy this deal, make sure you buy the proprietary deck screws while you're there. They're also on clearance and 1/2 the price Home Depot currently sells them for.

Yeah, once you start calculating how many screws ya need, it adds up. One box of 700 screws will only do maybe 175ish sf of deck. Which gets back to my original point about the labor.
That's 1400 spacers to move, 700 holes to drill, 700 screws to screw, and 700 times moving the jig for about a 12x14 deck.

Contrast that to something like the Camo deck system which drills and screws and spaces all at the same time, and the tool sets up both sides of the plank so you only place the tool once for every 2 screws. 350 times moving the jig, and 700 screws. No spacers to move, no drilling.

Yeah I checked those out. Definitely looks faster but a 700 count of screws was $70 so you're paying for that speed. If I was doing this a lot or using someone else's money I'd definitely go Camo.

My store had these deck jigs in one of those free standing cardboard displays (half filled with deck screws), not on the shelf with all the other Kreg stuff. They were on an endcap in the tool corral. They rang up at $18. YMMV.

I think those are the camo ones for using 2x decking. The camo screws for normal 5/4 are $99 for 1750 screws.

Why do you have to use Kreg screws with this? I've never needed to look for this, but I have a Kreg pocket hole system and use other brand screws for it sometimes

I built my first and only deck using the camo system and can report that it is fantastic and very beginner friendly as well. The screwless look is really clean too.

I bought one of these years ago to do my deck in the mtns. I can say that it does a good job but can concur that it is slow work with all the hole predrilling. You'll want to have 2 drills, one for predrilling and one for driving screws
