Wrong, If your paying $500 for a game system. You would want to make sure your extra storage takes advantage of every bit of spend you can to make games load as fast as possible. This SSD max read speed is 5000. Whereas Sony PS5 can read 5500 speeds.
You are free to waste your money for no actual gain other than higher numbers on paper. Each to their own...

This is the same mentality that people think that having a Gen4 7000mb/6600mb makes win11 boots faster than SSD 550/400mb drives.

This is a fantastic deal for a 2TB gen 4 SSD. On Amazon right now this is $240. [amazon.com]

Oops. What you quoted is 100% correct, which is why instead of disputing it, you rebutted it with an opinion about something abstract. There is no advantage now - or for the foreseeable future - of having a bleeding edge SSD. I'd also love to claim my WD Black is somehow faster than whatever SSD Shake-N-Bake is using, but our experiences are probably identical. Fantasy is fun, but there is no escape from reality.

Also, *you're.

Is there any issue with these drives being too thick for certain laptops? I have an Asus Zenbook 14 and the DIY replacement video suggested a certain drive due to the thickness. I never see this in the specs.

Will this one fit?

It should work as long as your laptop uses an NVMe SSD. Laptops from about 5 years ago still used sata SSDs, but as long as it's somewhat recent, you should be good. My laptop has a gen 3 motherboard, so I don't get the full speeds from my gen 4 SSD, but it is a big performance jump from the gen 3 SSD it came with.

TLDR: Don't buy this one for laptop, buy SK Hynix P31 or Samsung 980.

I don't recommend these for laptops. Gen4 drives (like this one) runs very hot and temperatures matter a lot more than speed on laptops. If these gets hot the speed will throttle and even the laptop might throttle as well.

My personal recommendation is SK Hynix P31 but they are known to lose data on power loss, for most this won't be an issue for laptops. My second recommendation is the Samsung 980 (non-PRO). My personal research has shown it is one of the coolest running SSDs, I have not found a direct comparison to P31 but from comparing reviews from same site, the 980 does seem to run a little bit cooler. The 980 does NOT have DRAM, and instead uses the CPU's, in real life, most people won't notice a difference. I do not know 980's behavior during power loss but Samsung have had a good track record of dealing with power loss appropriately.
