Easily upgradable 2 slots one with 8GB so one 8GB stick and you have 16GB.

This processor if faster than 10 gen I5's.

It lacks USB C charging and only has HDMI 1.4 so no 4k @ 60hz. You can do 4k@30hz.
But for this price you should not expect better.

The HP 1125g4 I bought was easily taken out of S mode. I highly suggest you do that unless you do not download many apps.

I have this laptop....got it from Costco 3 months ago for 380....nice laptop...has backlit keyboard but the keys are silver so does not show up that well with such light colored keys...I wish it had dark gray keyboard, but it is tolerable.....has fingerprint reader that works well...I upgraded it to 16gb ram from Crucial....fan runs quite a bit I have noticed...that would be the only real downside...I thought upgrading to 16gb ram would make the fan run less....I was wrong... when it is laying flat on my bed at night it gets warm/hot underneath....has very good up-firing speakers at the top of the keyboard....for 350 it is a good choice.

If I add 8 gb of RAM would this be ok for grad school? I'm thinking mainly lots of reading, writing and taking tests on camera?

I am surprised this one has no 4k@60 hz the micro center AMD deal for $150 otd + taxes can do that..at that price range too maybe just got lucky.

That deal expired..was In april.. it was for HP with amd ryzen cpu..299$ marked down with $150 coupon for new customers..got sold out fast..if you search should find it .

Would this one be better for $499? I know it is another $150 but it seems to have a lot for that price... bigger screen, touch screen, more memory, etc.

I always find something hard to put laptops on when sitting on soft surfaces, like a book or something.

Thank you for the info/review on it. I'm considering it.

If you want to save $70 and are ok with 4GB ram and 128GB SSD then check this out: https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-14-.../270583648 (Same HP form factor with Ryzen 3 3250U 2.6-3.5GHz, 1080P, WIN11)

I bought this 3.2lbs little laptop for word processing/light multitasking and found it is plenty fast on Windows 11 even with just the included 4GB DDR4 and dual-core (4 threads) Ryzen 3.

PS. You can take it out of S Mode to normal Windows 11 with 2-clicks

Similar value to Target BF deal that cost 270. This has 8gb of RAM (over 4gb), 256gb ssd (over 128gb) and a backlit keyboard for the extra $80, while everything else looks the same. The target deal was FP with over 1200 comments! (plus this has costco extended waranty and you dont need to upgrade ram/ssd right away like the Target deal)

It's true, this i3 has a Passmark of over 9,000 with a single-core rating over 2,800...pretty stout with the Xe graphics chip
