It's a HP (brushless) starter kit. As in you have everything you need to make any Ryobi HP brushless tool work at maximum efficiency (except outdoor tools).

You literally do not need to use the HP batteries on your Ryobi HP tools, but with this kit you can take full advantage of the performance of your HP tools vs the non HP batteries. You don't like how heavy they are with a 6ah or even 4ah battery? Great we got your 2ah one right here. Oh the 2ah does not last long enough? Great we got the 6ah. What's that still to heavy? Fine the 4ah is just right, now shut up and buy some more HP tools to take advantage of your starter kit. Here, we even give you a free tool as a bonus so you can really start off right and don't need to really buy more HP batteries unless you want to.
Yes, but with a caveat...

You cannot ship the one you want to keep to house and choose to pick up the one you don't and cancel it.

Choosing the most expensive tool, the battery kit is then $107.61, but you will have to return the tool you don't want to keep.
Plus free tool?

They had 2-6ah HP Batteries (same as the 6ah in this kit) for $139 or so awhile back.
So it could happen again.

This seemed like a smokin deal to me… are these batteries likely to be this affordable on a regular basis? Just curious.

You can choose to pick up the batteries into one store, and never pick up the tool in another store, of vice versa.

This is what I did and it worked fine.
At the very least, call and cancel the items you are not picking up. Don't just leave them in limbo for the HD employees to pull the tools from the shelf, then tag, sit there for days in the pickup area, then try to contact you to pickup without any response, only to ultimately have to restock the unwanted tools back on the shelf.

This is why HD is slowly killing the ability to do these hacks.

Any feedback on the chainsaw?
I have had one for a while, I like it. Good for about 4" or so. I cut up a decent amount of the top of a tree that I cut down. Odd that it doesn't have any oil system for the chain/bar on it though. I assume this will fail under a lot of use.

PROS:
Perfect for cutting up some limbs when you don't feel like dinking around with the gas chainsaw. Light. Ready to go cold or not outside.

CONS:
My chain loosens a fair amount. Also, have to clean debris out of if a decent amount. These things are mostly just annoying though, and still usually faster than getting the gas chainsaw out.

Do these batteries work with the tools from the $99 deal? I'm thinking of keeping 1 or 2 of tools I got from that deal and ordering these HP batteries.
The first reply you got led you astray. All ryobi 18v batteries work with all ryobi 18v tools. This goes back to the first Ni-Cad batteries and blue tools to today.

What they were getting at is some higher draw tools might not function as expected with a smaller battery pack. Ex the brad nailer may not work right if you use a 2ah or smaller battery causing you to think it's broke. Use a 4ah and it works as expected.

It can get confusing but the rule of thumb is whatever battery ryobi offers in a combo pack (an actual bundle, not a buy the battery get a select tool free) is the recommended minimum size. If a tool is not functioning s expected try a different battery pack that's at least 4ah. If it's still an issue, and both batteries were fully charged, contact Ryobi if still in the 3 year warranty.

With all that said these are HP batteries. They are using better cells than the normal ones in the $99 deal. I would expect the brad nailer to perform fine on the 2ah HP battery in this deal.

I will add that you may be better off with the batteries you have since most of the tools, and none of the outdoor tools, actually get the performance boost from the HP Batteries. Supposedly all brushless Ryobi tools (except outdoor) get a boost when an HP battery is detected. Ryobi will never give you specific numbers, they will just say the tool will perform optimally with the HP batteries. People here state they definitely make a difference, but there is a psychosomatic element as well (everyone want's to validate their choices as good). This deal is roughly 12ah of HP batteries for $100, the other is roughly 16ah of regular batteries for $100. 25% more battery life will more than make up for any hp battery performance gain that will result in tool, bit/blade, and material heating up more but a quicker result.

I have Ryobi's 6.5" circular saw, and do not like it. I've found I don't personally like blade left, it seems like the base has more flex than it should, hard to set and keep blade angle properly square, murders batteries, just doesn't seem to like to cut straight, even with the Kreg rip cut guide or a speed square edge helper, etc. Granted it was a recon from Direct Tools so that might have something to do with it, but it's getting a lot of use so I'm considering replacing it with something that would be less frustrating.

I've been eyeing their brushless 7.5, which is blade right and would be "free" in this deal, but it doesn't seem to be well loved on review sites. I also have a foot in the Makita camp so any of their saws are also an option, but obviously not "for free" 😇. Anyone have experience with this saw vs Makita or others? Are the criticisms on the Ryobi HP saw warranted or nitpicks? Is it a big improvement in livability/quality over the brushed, non-HP 6.5" saw?

I can't speak to this newer brushless circ saw but I have had the previous brushless P508 for a few years and have been very happy with it. I used it to frame an entire basement and with a big fresh battery it was more than up to the task. Also the nut that kept tension on the blade guard pooped out after 2 years and they sent me all parts to easily diy fix for free

curious if you picked up this ratchet and if you like it? I am thinking about picking this as the free tool with the deal. It seems like a good deal with the cost of this tool plus the batteries. thx.

anyone have any feedback on the 1/4" Extended Reach Ratchet?

https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../316631066 [homedepot.com]

i borrowed a bunch of my ryobi tools and batteries to my father in law and all the tools made it back, but not all the batteries! He's 80 years old so I don't intend to hassle him about missing batteries but i guess it's time to restock.
