I though HD clamped down on these "free item return" hack deals?

I didn't try to complete a checkout, but I was able to add the battery pack to the cart and ship to home and select a tool to ship to store; it would seem like the order for store pickup could then be cancelled or returned.

They have made it more work but not impossible. You can either pick up from 2 different stores and never pick up from one or pick up both then return the item you don't want.

Edit: It looks like it's allowing you to do the ship to home and pick up option again.

even when everyone claimed it worked easy, every time i did it the person i spoke to would refuse and id have to spend a ton of time on the phone with them. it was only when i got transferred to the manager that they would reluctantly refund me. they always told me that although a lot of people do it, they werent supposed to allow it. i wouldnt be surprised at all if they stop doing it. or stopped. maybe i just got really lucky, but all 3 or 4 times i did it over the past 4 or so years, it was a royal pain.

Please make sure promotional items have the same delivery or pickup options and try again

I used to work at Home Depot. Customers who return anything are logged and tracked in the system. This is how scammers that use the "found receipt in the parking lot" scam and others are found out and banned.

HD will be very courteous until you show a pattern of what they consider fraudulent behavior. After that, you are looking at bans and tresspass notifications.

They have tightened up some at least. It used to work that you could split and have part shipped to home and part for store pick up. Then you could ship to home the part you wanted to keep and the other to pick up. Could either cancel the in store pick up item via chat or not pick it up. That way you never had to return anything…just canceled part of the order.

Now they make you have to select the same delivery or pick up options for both items (at least that is the message I get via chrome). It does allow you to pick up at different stores so possibly could pick up one and cancel or never pick up from the other store?

I think you're just doing too much work.

Just have the items shipped to your home, then return the item you don't want to the store next time you happen to be there.

I've done this probably a dozen times in the last year and not had a single person push back on the return

Exactly. I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Even when you place the order you can see the discount spread across the 2 items. When you return one, you get the discounted partial credit.

I abuse these every year, like 5x a year, I literally buy things walk over and return half the kit, or order half of it to one Home Depot and one to another and not pick up half, or ship part home and other to Home Depot.

no one gives a crap at my Home Depots. they actually expect me to do this.

I get a Ryobi tool to go along with this in my cart, the price for battery is cheaper, then return the tool?

This is a good deal. Good stuff even without hacking. Get the chainsaw

Edit: Considering the free tools they're giving away (mostly newer and brushless) with this battery kit, this is one of the better Ryobi day deals ever.
