many kids get into pokemon cards more for collecting and trading, rather than playing the game.

for collecting/trading, these types of boxes with booster packs are a good deal.

for learning to play, i'd recommend the battle academy. it's $20 for 3 full & playable decks.

for learning the rules, the battle academy is good. the pokemon card game app is also really good. free to play and there are pre-constructed decks that are balanced

Bought 3 on Amazon for $26.49 each on the 5th.
Will have them price match or just buy these and return the others, thanks OP!

this is what I got, looks to be the same but mine are in cardboard boxes.

If you received the cardboard version you got 7 booster packs vs 5. Don't exchange.
you got a better variety in the 7 pack version vs the metal tin with only 5 boosters.

Thanks for the feedback, does it still come in a tin in the cardboard box? Haven't opened yet and the kids would want a tin lol

What I hate is that I can't use my GC as it negates the free shipping... had it for like 3 years now lol.

This is a hard question to answer without knowing more. Not sure how old she is or whether she is interested in collecting, playing or both, and whether this is a birthday present or not... but if she wants to collect this seems great, if she wants to play you might be better off getting her an Elite Trainer box which has all she'd need (they run about $45 new)..Buying used in bulk you can get cards REALLY cheap...

I would probably recommend any set that has an elite trainer box. Retail cost is about $40 but it comes with enough extras that are meant to get people started playing the game. Dice, damage counters, energies and guide book and packs to open.

The current set list that comes out this week is "Astral Radiance". The last set was "Brilliant Stars", before that Evolving skies. So it depends on what kind of pokemon she likes as to what set I would recommend. Fusion Strike and Chilling Reign are two sets from last year I like.

vivid Voltage is the set from last year that was hard to get an ETB of but PTC just did a reprint of them so I might recommend that one for Pickachu fans (no guarantee you get a Pikachu card)!

Most kids don't actually play. They just like to trade. You can buy 100 cards for $15-$20 on Ebay but this is also a good set for them as they have fun opening the packs. I also recommend a binder from Amazon thats $15-$20

Anyone know when (or if) Target will get the Astral Radiance ETBs? The set comes out in 1 weeks (next Friday) but I have some Circle rewards and gift cards to use.
