Just be aware everyone, these are SAS drives not SATA, so no use in standard consumer grade NAS devices or PC's without a SAS controller. In case anyone glossed over the description and didn't notice.

Those adapters only changes the interface used, not the protocol used to communicate between the controller and the Drive.
You will still need a SAS capable controller on the other end of that sata cable.

The price is really good. However, this HDD has a 5-year warranty but you'll have to RMA it through the seller (if they even honor it) instead of direct to Toshiba. Not sure I would trust this seller in 2 years.

SAS to SATA adapter is like $8 on AMZN
Nice to know, guess I've been stuck in enterprise IT for so long that I haven't kept up on the consumer stuff as much heh.

In the old days, a SAS HBA could also speak SATA protocol, so to speak, but a SATA controller was not capable of doing the same with SAS. NIce to know this now works the other way around as well!

Thanks for the info!

EDIT: Apparently this still holds true, you still need a controller that will handle SAS drives.

SAS HBAs are dirt cheap. you'll need at the very least a LSI 2308 (or 3008) based HBA, and you can get them for under $100 on ebay. also, you'll need these cables:

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matt...01BW1U1GS/

do not buy a HBA with a LSI 2008 based HBA as they do not support 4kn drives.

I won't lie, I bought another 9 more of these drives for my disk array. Last time I bought one, just to see and after everything worked out I dove in to upgrade my storage.

I'm well aware, and happy to take the chance. I've had great luck with my Toshiba drives. Plus, the pool is setup with 2 hot spares, in case one of the drives starts to act up.

Yes..you may need an adapter for SATA...but yes.

If you are building a larger server, you may want to consider SAS over SATA.

It is easier...and seems to have fewer Gremlins ...if you are working with SAS

I use these in a NetApp DS4246 disk array. I can't remember the controller card off the top of my head.
