This trimmer is a beast but Ego seems to have battery issues.

My first battery died after 1.5 seasons (refused to charge and would flash red). Ego was kind enough to send a second battery under warranty, but at 2 seasons on the new battery, it will now only keep a 30% charge at Best.

Figure I would deal with it until I find a good deal on a Dewalt (since I'm already in the ecosystem) ... Or it completely dies.

In general I've had a great experience with their 7.5 and 5.0 batteries. I've definitely neglected them but they're still kicking 5+ yrs later. Always ran them on the fast charger in my hot and humid garage right after long yardwork sessions.

In an ideal world you'd want to always keep them in a conditioned space, slow charge as much as possible, don't charge them immediately after heavy use and don't leave them on the charger after they're full.

It seems that the ego battery management system is pretty robust but for sure there are always defective ones in the mix.

What's the daily price for this combo?

Edit: It's $299 at Lowe's, which means it can be for this price anytime between the discounted gift cards and the 10% off coupon.

Still worth it for those who need it now or don't want to go through that hassle.

If you recall, how long is their battery warranty?

3 years based on the original purchase date... Which is pretty much the standard.

Ego advised me that the replacement item warranty was still held to the original purchase date, not the date provided to me.

I bought my Ego trimmer/blower/edger around 6/20 (when Home Depot was getting rid of them). No issues so far. The battery is holding up well. I bring them in the house over the winter. If the garage is very hot, I also bring them in. The manual recommends charging in a location between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius (32-104 Fahrenheit).
I did notice one time the light in the battery was blinking red while just sitting there in the shelf. I called Ego to ask about it and to log in an issue. They didn't offer any useful advice. It's been working fine though.
I'm all in with Ego, 3 lawn tools and found a blower on Woot on sale.

Yeah I bring them in for the winter months but leave them in a garage wall cabinet during the summer. Oddly enough my weed eater brand hedge trimmer battery is stored about 3 inches away all year and still going strong after 4 seasons.

Really wish they would sell these kits with 5.0 batteries. Great tools but they will chew through that 2.5 in no time.

How and where do you store the batteries? Fully charged or drained? In climate controlled area or an area that freezes?

In a garage cabinet during summer months but indoors during winter months. I also store a battery to my Weed Eater hedge trimmer the same way and still holding strong 4 seasons in.

As far as charged question, I tipically only charge it when I am down to 1 bar or flashing... Which is normally about 3-4 rounds of trimming.

I have this set from a previous slick deal and love it. The 2.0 is plenty of power for my needs of blowing out the garage and trimming after mowing.

I have 4 Ego tools, and 3 batteries. In order of like - dislike, i like the edger the best. next would be the blower, next would be the hedge trimmer, and last would be the string trimmer (AKA weed eater). the last one is TOO heavy, long, unbalanced, and does a crappy job of edging, or trimming driveway joints/cracks. Ego is naive in their pricing of trimmer line, and edger blades. The edger blades can be replaced with a generic 8" X 2" X ~1/8" to 1/10" thick with a 1" Hole. I happened to already own 10 edger blades I purchased on ebay in 2015 for $1.00 each.

just be sure to check the battery when you get it. I just ordered the trimmer from amazon and the battery was dated 2018... so already likely at 75% of original capacity. I sent it back. Waste of time. it did have free returns AS LONG AS YOU DON'T USE IT. so check, fitst.

I have a total of 6 ego batteries and so far haven't had any of them die, and I've been a customer for pretty much as long as they sold power tools. I try to rotate them if I can. Super satisfied with the brand overall, I had a snowblower that died not long after purchase and they sent me a new one no problem. They are also super responsive about answering technical questions by just sending them a facebook message. That's very helpful as opposed to having to call or email. I just got the Power station and when hook up 4 x 5ah batteries, it will give me 3 hours at 13 amps of 120v. It's pretty hard to beat that when you compare to some of the dedicated power banks that are being sold as fridge/freezer/whatever backups.
