The xenia is way lighter than the enduro by about 2 lb or half the enduro weight and significantly smaller size. it is not bad but not as durable as the enduro which is built to take more abuse.

I have a tongfang chassic motile and i dropped it from 1 foot onto a hard tile floor and one of the corner cracked and broke off. I was able to superglue it back. But my point is that the magnesium composite chassic of these tongfang laptops are a bit liable to shatter instead of just being deeply dented or bented as compared to more traditional aluminum metal type chassic.

The xenia is however, still a very good laptop though. It has two usb-c with DP and PD, one more than the enduro. Xenia also have two nvme slots while the enduro only has one. xenia also has a slight bigger 16:10 1200p screen. However, the xenia is more expensive by $130.

Both has HDMI 2.0 and two sodimms as well as a separate power connector so you don't have to use a dock while using the usb-c for video. Both has backlit keyboards

If you want a 14in notebook with usb-c with DP and PD, HDMI 2.0, and 2 sodimm, backlit keys, I think the enduro is probably the cheapest option right now.. But the xenia is also a good option if you want lighter weight with a bit more stuffs

If you are ok with getting a 15in laptop, you have the option of HP pavilion which also have usb-c with DP and PD, HDMI 2.0, two sodimm, and backlit keys, 1080p screen with 5500u cpu for $480:

Durability is pretty good, in the sense that it's an all-metal chassis.
However, since they had to keep the weight low, there's a little flex to the keyboard (only if you press in the center too hard) and wobble to the screen when you're using it while traveling.

Nothing too bothersome, but something the buyer should be aware of.

Any idea on what kind of games he plays? This isn't a gaming laptop and would only be able to run very light and basic games.

Also, what is your budget? Proper gaming laptops are usually more expensive.

Really helpful.. (not). Determining if he needs something with a more powerful graphics card as his gaming exploration grows and have already ruled out network latency as issues..

Lag while playing online games is most likely due more to your internet connection than the actual hardware. Assuming what he is calling lag is the reaction time between when he does something/moves and when it actually happens on the game server.

This is kind of odd right? That it's being marketed and targeted as a gaming laptop, with gaming accessories but has integrated graphics??

No, it has a slow refresh rate so not the best choice for gaming, although not sure what's better in this price range.

A kid being clueless about that stuff is a plus.

It is fine. I have these tongfang chassics. They open to about 140 degrees. As long as you don't abuse them, they are ok. My motile from sept 2019 is still fine.

For anyone who has this laptop, would you say this is durable enough to withstand a fall from couch level?
No. I have this laptop I7 version bought for $750. Enjoy every bit of it. It is not for rough use

Would using it on my lap or some other non-flat & non-stationary surface count as abuse? From what I can tell in reviews, even the slightest bit of movement causes the display to rock back and forth quite a bit. I'd be using it on my lap quite often, so during those sessions I imagine the laptop display and hinges will be shaking quite a bit? Could that have an effect on its lifespan?

it's not quite that bad....lol... you ll be fine using it on your lap and typing. you can check the motile page on slickdeals. I haven't seen any complaint on there about anyone's hinge broken off yet...
