I wonder if there's any benefit w heat reduction by using a lower wattage rating. If I'm charging overnight that ought to be enough time to charge to full at the slower charging rate.

I use 5W and it charges overnight with out any issue. Takes 1-2 minutes for 1% of battery to be charged on iphone 13 pro. Less heat than apple mag safe original charger
