I have the black mx3 and was worth it for me. Got it at staples with a $20 of coupon.

I've heard the grey stains easier both general grime but also for those who eat greasy foods or things like cheetos at the computer.

Will the usb c version work for mac? Does it come with a dongle for the usb receiver?

The receiver is USB A (the mouse charges via USB C and comes with an A to C cable). It will work via Bluetooth or the receiver on Mac, but I had lots of trouble with it on Bluetooth (disconnections, poor latency, generally not fun to use), but when I switched to the receiver it worked flawlessly. I'm super happy with mine, recently bought a second to have in my office, and may get another for my brother based on this deal.

My M1 Mac only has usb c ports. Did you have to buy a dongle just to connect the receiver?

Also in my opinion the gray is lighter than the pictures. More of a light gray. I own both and personally think the black looks nicer.

I bought a previous generation and I didn't notice such a differences that it seemed worth the extra money for me. Maybe lasted me a few months more than a more basic mouse, but I didn't really find value in it either from a performance perspective or an endurance perspective. I'd say it would be a matter of personal preference and if you're the type that goes through computer hardware relatively often.
