This is true.

However, for $500 you're getting a really weak gaming PC with tiny 256gb of storage. An Xbox Series X makes a lot more sense from a gaming-only perspective. Especially since this thing isn't going to have much for upgrade options with a proprietary 400 watt PSU and motherboard.

They also have an option for the 1650 super for actually -$10 less.

1650 is a bit better performance overall than RX5500

One m.2 slot only. You can add an x1 m.2 card for 900 Mbps and/or a couple SATA drive.
I am wondering if best move is doing m.2 in enclosure for usb c drive

It's an option. You get pretty much PCIe 3 x1 speed.

In the specs it lists "Realtek Canary ac 2x2 + Bluetooth 5 M.2 2230 PCI-e+USB WW with 2 Antennas."

So it's an m.2 pcie wifi/bluetooh combo card with 2 antennas, but what the heck does "USB WW" mean?

Deal is meh. Graphics card is worth something like $130ish, and prices keep dropping, I think it will continue.

Anyone know how you can add another m.2 drive to these computers for gaming?

I believe there is an open PCIe x1 slot above the graphics card.

Correct me if I am wrong but if so then one of these should work...

Bandwidth through a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot maxes out at 985MB/s (around 8000 Mbps)

If this isn't a great deal, can someone point me to another pre built around $500 that's better?

It's worth the $40 upgrade to GTX 1660 Super. It's 30% faster than the RX 5500 so it's much better bang for the buck. Or if money is tight you can "downgrade" to the GTX 1650 Super to save $10 even though the GTX 1650 Super is slightly faster than an RX 5500.

Thanks I upgraded my graphics card to a 6600xt and covered the pcie slot completely with the fans. Good news is that the usbc drive enclosure i got on Amazon works well. I'm getting that speeds that are close to 900 mbps if not better not sure how to best test it? I bought a drive that is rated much higher maxes at allegedly 5,000mps so it runs cool. This should buy me some more time.

I also upgraded the machine to 32gig of ram which made little difference for some reason.

Adding RAM isn't going to necessarily improve gaming performance much. It depends on the game and how much RAM it needs, and how much RAM is being used by other programs that are running. RAM only becomes a performance issue when there is not enough of it.

As far as testing the external SSD speed, you can just copy files to and from the drive and look at the file transfer window to get a ballpark speed. There are freeware utilities that can give a more precise measurement, e.g. ATTO Disk Benchmark LINK [majorgeeks.com]

Seems like the drive is working fine if you are seeing transfers around 900 megabytes per second. (Note there is often mix-up between megabits/gigabits per second and megabytes/gigabytes per second. When abbreviated, generally lowercase b is used for bits and capital B for bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte.)
