A very fun, challenging game. I played the game with my brother across the country via co-op, at times it was tough to make it work but it went smoothly enough. Gameplay is great but takes an hour or two get a hang of it and not die all the time.

I agree. I'm finding this one pretty challenging. The setting and companion aspect have been an interesting change of pace when compared to the bleak, lonelier worlds that many Souls-likes have your character inhabit. Still pretty early into it, however (only ~3 hours or so).
Great game! I played through when it was on gamepass and really enjoyed my time. This was the first soulslike game I completed and the first time the formula finally clicked for me. I've since gone back and played through almost every Fromsoft soulsborne title.
Ashen gives you a companion at all times and the ability to play co-op. The art style is a really beautiful minimalist style (looks sort of like Absolver or Sifu if you've played those). My only complaints are lack of enemy variety compared to the brand name souls titles and a really large difficulty spike about halfway through (if you're stuck in one particular dungeon you can google to find the secret route that entails jumping off the side of certain ledges to make it to the bottom without dying a million times). There's a large amount of weapons to find with unique attack animations for them all and it's not just a choice of using whichever weapon has the biggest damage number, but instead using and learning attack patterns to find your preferred weapon. The open world is really nice with small caves and other side locations to explore. The hub village getting built up around you as you recruit more party members and defeat bosses is really well done and possibly my favorite hub area of any souls title (sorry, Majula!) Overall, really great game!
