These Bosch M42 cobalt have been good bits for box store brands and are also part of the $20 off $100 Bosch promotion.

===========
These were also $19.70 this past January with a $5 on page coupon that does not show up in the 3C's price history. At that time, we bought several of the 21pc for similar money from a 3rd party on Amazon with Amazon as the shipper and no problems.

Great bits. So much easier to drill through steel.

I've purchased so many sets of these kind of drill bits, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita and Bosch, and I found out that these bits don't last. Those individual ones are way better than these sets, same brand, same drill bit, the individual ones are always better. You can even tell the difference when you put them together. After spending hundreds of dollars, I'm not wasting my money on these sets no more.

I have to disagree with your comment about wasting money, especially for a DIYer like myself. I usually don't know beforehand which drill bit (drive bit, router bit, saw blades, etc) I uses the most. So I can't justify to buy many different expensive individual bits.

But once a bit from a kit getting dull or damages, that's an indication I need that one more often. Then go out and buy a good one.

Same strategy applies to buy screws, cheap tools (e.g. from Harbor Freight), etc.

For drill bit kit, I have a couple small HSS sets. I found they got dull quickly drilling through the metal roof for gutter guard. That's why I got this kit. I found I use the smaller one more often, so I got a couple Bosch individual ones when Amazon had the sale. Not use the 1/2 inch one in the kit yet, but nice to have it without spending a lot for something I may not use.

The individual bits are generally pure cobalt at a cost of $4-20 a piece for smaller bits.

These re M42 steel alloy (8% cobalt).

Certainly the carbide bits last longer and are better at drilling through hardened metals, but they come at a much greater expense.

A person is probably best deserved by owning several sets. A titanium nitride set for wood and around the home stuff. Something like this M42 set for difficult jobs, and cobalt when drilling through lots of hardened steel.

As far as I know, cobalt drill bits come in only two flavors, M35 which is 5% cobalt, and M42 which is 8% cobalt. Carbide is even harder, but will break if you look at it wrong because it is so brittle.

The only thing holding me back on this set is that it's made in China and I wonder how good their M42 alloying really is.

Sorry, yes I mistakenly put cobalt rather than carbide. I should also add that specialised carbide drill bits and milling bits can go into several hundred dollars a piece.

I just used my set from years ago and they do a good job of drilling metal. Better that most titanium bits I've used. Not sure on longevity, though.

One thing I CAN say is that this is NOT SLICK. I think I bought my sets for less than $6.

Do these break as easily as the DeWalt cobalts? I do love how they eat up metal but the snap so easily.

Does anyone know of a good 115pc cobalt drill kit with decent quality bits at a reasonable price?

Are the DrillHog brand sets and warranty a scam? Are those even decent quality bits or just another HF quality rebrand?

Struggling to find a 115 piece M42/M35 drill line to commit to, as I need/want to be able to replace broken sizes easily and need the robustness of that material commonly.

Anywhere to get Good advice which 115pc drill sets to purchase? As well as other tooling that needs to be optimized for quality to price?

I'd say Drill Hog is a scam. The holders and American flag stickers may be made here, but the bits are most likely Chinese. And their address is a UPS store, they don't even have a physical location.

Their marketing for free replacement is too good to be true..

But if it was real, and they followed through without funny business , that would be a hell of a deal.

I just can't find a decent quality 115pc M42 set of that will allow me to purchases any specific size as a replacement for a "reasonable" cost shipped.

I dont go through many bits due to brakeage , but just can't stand a incomplete matched set, especially when that's the bit I use frequently.
