Is this the first 8K tv we've seen under $1k (other than a certain PM in 2020)?

RTINGS seems to have liked it overall giving it a 7.5 out of 10. The reviews on Best Buy are a tad more critical though.

Can any game system or computer play at 8k?

Does any streaming service stream at 8k? I'd be worried about streaming a 5 minute YouTube video and going over my 1tb data cap 😂
Yes and No.
8K gaming is possible but currently not feasible.
You'll need one heck of a gaming rig to perform 8K gaming.

Not sure what this implies really. These reviews placed it against $3,000 tvs, not $1000 tvs. You're talking about a few things which would be expected in a $3000 tv. But not all of these are expected in a $1000 tv. Spec wise, I think this is "good price 4K version, with an 8k bonus", making this slick.

Example, the "blacks are grey" comment is only really applicable when comparing this to oled. Most reviews of the other size model suggest contrast on this tv is still a step up from most non oled models.
[low contrast ratio, so blacks look grey in a dark room, and its full-array local dimming feature is mediocre. Also, despite using LG's NanoCell technology, it can't display a wide color gamut like on other high-end TVs, and combined with its low HDR peak brightness, highlights and colors aren't as vivid as they should be in HDR.]
Nowhere does it state this is compared to a OLED TV.
Plus LG makes sh tty LCD/LED TVs.

Based on specs, it seems like it's a decent entry model 8k, but mediocre 4K if that makes any sense. Certainly can find better features in a 4K for the price. I will wait until either 8k becomes more available or OLED drops in price.
Reminds of circa 2013 Seiki SE50UY04 50 inch 4K TV for $1,300!! [cnet.com]

A great deal to future proof your TV.... same deal back then, the resolution was rare and the TV was poor quality.

We had a previous generation 9000 series LG. The colors were good, as were the viewing angles. WebOS is a great interface. But I just couldn't get past the black levels in dark scenes under low-light viewing conditions. The Samsung QN90A we have now is much better in that department. RTings pegged our LG TV at a native contrast of ~1,300:1 but they have this model at a truly dismal 552:1. If that's actually representative of the model, that's pretty dreadful.

The best offerings from TCL and even Hisense have much better contrast and black levels. My TCL 8 Series gets near OLED blacks and gets much brighter than any OLED...

This tv doesn't look terrible if you are in the market, but I don't feel the need to dump my current LG to get this one. I don't care much for 8k as content is limited. I am still super happy with 1080p blu rays, and will sometimes splurge on 4k Blu rays.

IPS screens are preferred for me, but tv reviewers usually poop on them for "black levels". I have ips TVs, computer monitors, and even upgraded my GBA screen to IPS. They won't degrade over time like OLED. I keep things for years. I also am not a fan of local dimming. It just seem distracting to me.

I like my current TV's low (enough for me) input lag. This tv seems to have similarly low input lag and 120hz refresh which is nice. I see 8k input lag on the tv is pretty high though especially compared to its 1080p and 4k input lag. It also lacks vrr which stinks for an upper end tv. I thought freesync was supposed to be cheap and easily implemented!

Not a bad tv if you're in the market. I wouldn't care about the smart tv features. It's kind of a proprietary os that I ignore and just use my shield tv, fire tv, or Roku.

Great deal but only if you watch 8K content and sit closer than 4 feet away from this 65" TV. If you sit farther than 4 feet away your eyes won't be able to distinguish the difference between 4K and 8K. If you sit further away then 4 feet, then go with a similarly priced 4K TV with local dimming.

May be because it is an IPS panel TV.
That's a benefit, not a negative.

I ended up ordering and then cancelling. Not a great TV. Edge lit along with no 8k content make this a no buy.
My Nvidia RTX ON! video card can do 8k gaming with this! Woooooooo!

Who should consider this tv

Ppl who really really want 8k
Ppl who really really need wide viewing angles
Ppl who really want a tv that is great for sports

Who shouldnt

Everyone else

The numbers that matter

For movie watching

Very poor contrast even for an IPS
Poor grey uniformity
Mediocre gradient
Surprisngly low color volume for an IPS

During movie watching and especially streaming, you're going to see those problems show up often.

If im a gamer, huge sports fan, must have 8k that doesn't really care much about movie presentation beyond is it watchable then id consider this.

Otherwise

Tcl 6 series or hisense u8g is far superior.
