My iphone 11 activated on 4/22/2022 is still not unlocked as of today 10/29/22022. Unlock not guaranteed unless you have the 6 months of service. YMMV
___________
and before anyone ask....
to have phone unlock in 180 days (6 months)
u need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
u do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service for 180 days.
the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
it is extremely likely true for this deal as well

also note...many times M reps will make up rules...
if it sounds odd...its probably made up

Turns out it's 6 months for the phone to be unlocked. I'll pass.

Or would they rather lose a sale if they can't tag all these BS charges onto the bill?
If I were you though, I'd just call and ask for a quote and the name of the person that you're talking to, as well as if they'll be there when you arrive. Or just ask them if they know where the closest corporate store is... that sounds like an easier way, maybe

You have to somewhat play the game as well. I did the previous 11 deal at metro and the rep mentioned I would have to pay insurance for the first month but could cancel it afterwards. $12 per phone was worth it to me since the deal was good. I think I paid around $170 per 11 after all fees

I only want this phone to use as a trade in at TMO afterwards come September (for iPhone 14). I don't need any junk cases and stuff.
I don't have any corporate stores close by. Could you, folks, explain what the issues with the authorized dealer stores are and how I can possibly mitigate them?
Corporate stores (owned / operated by T-Mo) don't have these issues other than the ID requirement, and I would trust T-Mo with my ID much more than joe schmoe's prepaid emporium.

As others have said, if you must deal with an AD store and they demand add-ons, target carrier ad-ons like insurance through Metro because you can at least cancel and get partial refunds of some those through Metro directly after you've left the store.

I had a good experience with first authorized dealer. She declined to provide any receipt, but sold me the phone for 178. She wanted 200 in cash flat, but when I asked for itemized details, she came down to 178, but did not seem very happy to sell for lower price, she never complained though.
Second Authorized Dealer (different location):
I had a fantastic experience with second authorized dealer who went above and beyond to use his own drivers license to verify my identify because my ID was rejected because of my last month iPhone purchase. He also said that other representatives would not have sold me the same phone for less than 300, and I paid 178 total per phone.
However, these stores receive 1-2 iPhone per week, and I had to call multiple stores everyday to check availability. I had to wait multiple weeks before any store had availability.
