No. Downgrading the GPU and paying more is not worth it for a gaming PC. You can buy ram and storage anywhere, buying a 3070 for a good price is the hard part.

Also, the performance difference is not "negligible" between a 3060 ti and 3070. A 3070 can actually run some 4k games at playable frame rates while the 3060 ti is reserved to being a 1440p max card.

If you paid $300 for a 1TB NVME and $150 for an additional 8GB of RAM you should buy all your parts from me. I'll gladly be your retailer if you're throwing away cash like that.

Your build isn't better for gamers.

I'm not going to add to the other comments about your hardware price estimates being off the wall, but I will tell you that the 3070 is at least a 10% better GPU (some tests show 25%). That's a big deal for gamers. You're smoking crack if you think the ram makes up for that much of a difference. Buy a second 8 gbs of the same MHz ram for $30 and you'll be fine. 512gb is plenty for a main os drive, you can get an additional 1 tb ssd for $70 now (no need to reinstall windows), and it's easy to install a secondary drive. $100 additional total and you'll be good to go. That's the same price as the MSRP difference between the 3060ti and 3070 FE cards.

3080 for $200 more? That's the same retail price difference between a 3070 and 3080 so that's not a bad option at all.

This is a great deal. I do think this configuration is a bit better bang for your buck. Total cost is slightly higher, at $1109.49. This downgrades from a 3070 to a 3060TI but that performance is negligible for the $200 you save. I used the saved cash to upgrade the NVME to 1TB and the ram to dual-channel 16gb. I think that trade-off is well worth it. I also threw in an Intel Wifi NIC because they seem to be way more reliable in my experience.

I would say downgrade the GPU to 3060ti, and leave the rest as it and then upgrade with your own parts.
You have to reach a sticker price of $1199 with the coupon so that isn't an option.

I say upgrade to 3080, since we are spending more anyway.

I was able to .. and total came to 950ish with 3060ti including tax, and 870 without tax

Good to know. Op said coupon required $1199 before coupon.

If someone is comfortable upgrading on their own, that is the best route.

Note that HP motherboards won't run ram you buy elsewhere at XMP speed. You will need to manually overclock work Ryzenmaster.

Each is entitled to their own opinion. Out of the box I still feel my build is a better build for most people. In the other build the storage will be a problem quickly at 512 only allowing you to install a few games. The Ram can be upgraded but again you are spending money right away. And honestly at that point. You are better off building the whole pc.

Neither of these cards are 4k cards imo. And this is a budget build. You will lose 7-12% gpu performance at most which is better than the performance you'd lose form having only 8gb of ddr in single channel.

If you want it all pay the extra $200 or better yet opt for the 3080. But with this build you get a build that doesn't need upgrading immediately costing you hundreds over the initial sticker price. It will play all modern games at a good resolution and frame rate.

A 1tb NVME would cost you $200-300, and the ram another $150. And with the customer base of a prebuilt I doubt replacing parts and reinstalling windows is something they want to mess with.
Unless you live in Australia, a 1TB nvme can be had for $80. A 970 Evo is $110. Even a 980 pro is only $150. 32 GB of 3200mhz CL 16 ram is $100

What country and what year were you pricing these parts in? A matching 8GB stick of RAM is $30-$40, and a 1TB NVME drive can be had for under $100. My 80 year old grandma could install a stick of RAM and an NVME drive if she watched a YouTube video on how to do it. The SK Hynix P31 is the best PCI-E gen 3 drive on the market, and is $110 when not on sale. Even gen 4 drives, which have zero benefit for gaming, regularly go on sale for $160. I'm assuming you're out of the loop and haven't looked at prices since DDR4 was just released back in 2015? Either that, or you're looking at HP's incredibly inflated upgrade prices. Either way, you're flat out wrong.
