Anyone know how it compares to this one in terms of quality and built:

No comparison. Thinkpad wins hands down ! Pavilion is HP's bottom tier consumer grade lineup while Thinkpad is meant for enterprise customers. The Lenovo equivalent is Ideapad series.

My status is still "waiting to be shipped".

Ordered same specs as the OP minus the fingerprint reader and upgraded webcam.

Was shipping it to my son's college - and it got security flagged. Wanted me to place another order. Politely declined as previous CB rates no longer valid.

This youtuber has the best visual for showing off the E14 gen 3 chasis/features >not english audio, if you want to SEE it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3srPuwrfA8

Only thing I figure the major downside in the E series vs all the way up to the top tier T and X series with the OP config is weight and thickness. A pound heavier and a bit thicker, but still very attractive. On the upside, the E series keyboard has better travel than the ultra models.

OP Suryasis is spot on with the posted E14 deal config here for most case scenarios IMO in terms of VALUE.. That's what I got (for one of my kids lol as I type on a 7 year old 2-core dell e5450 with a bleeding keboard) Thanks Suryasis.

The HP has a 15.6" display, which is bigger and hence weighs more. Depends on what you want.
Same CPU/APU, Memory
250 nit display on the HP vs 300 on the Lenovo. The HP may not work well in well lighted environments.

The HP might be okay, but I'd bet you'd appreciate the keyboard of the Thinkpad over the HP. However, if your target is 15"+ display, then this thinkpad isn't for you.

Gateway laptop screen is not that great either. It is dull and calibration is way off. Super glossy too. If this is ips as one of the posts suggests, it can't be that bad compared to other options.

I recently purchased a ThinkBook (https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/719902) for my wife to do office tasks (word, excel) and internet browsing. Do you think the ThinkPad would be a better buy for her use case? One thing I like about the ThinkPad is double the memory to keep the laptop usable longer. The screen on the ThinkBook is excellent, however: 13.3" 2560x1600 (16:10) 300-nit IPS with 100% sRGB.
Isn't 300 nits kind of dim? The new M2 Macbooks are 500 nits iirc
I'm wondering this because I tend to use my devices in brightly lit environments

300 nits is fine for indoor home or office use. It is a bit dim if you're outside in the sun. 500 nits at full brightness indoors will probably be too much for most people. It all depends where you will be using the system most of the time.

This is true. My current laptop is 400 nits and I find 50% brightness is bright enough for me indoors.
