For hollow core doors, take the time to take them down and do it properly. Popping out the hinge pins only takes a couple seconds.

I don't know how many times I've seen the skins start to split from their frame because someone used a jamb saw on them without any clamps.

As for this tool, it's a bad bandaid for the real problem, which is poor framing.

In a lot of situations, just shimming the top or bottom hinge will fix the reveal without the need for minor undercuts.
grind the floor
A hand planer works like a charm for s sticky door.
probably less messy, too

Depending where your issue is, the solution is to use longer screws in the frame side of the hinge. They will grab fresh wood and pull the door straighter in the frame.

I have to do this for a door we put in recently that's now out of square. The screws in the top hinge just spin in their holes and don't bite into anything.
Longer screw is only for when the current screw has come loose but the position is still good. If you don't need to move it far enough, it tends to move back into the original hole. Even then it wears out that hole eventually or if someone already did a long screw you now need an even longer screw. The real solution is the toothpick and wood glue trick. This door trimmer is for moving the entire door line. My house foundation was sagging and it moved the door frame out of square and I had to remove the door and trim it.

I assume he is being downvoted for his "I've never tried this, have no knowledge of the product, but it sucks anyway" attitude.

Good thing there are tons of reviews that go into detail about exactly why this thing sucks.

Toothpicks aren't as dense and they tend to splinter when you go to predrill.

This. Billiard stores sell shims in many thicknesses that are perfect for fixing door hinges. Popsicle sticks and paint sticks work too.

There are as many reviews saying otherwise (a majority in fact). So a random stranger on the internet can tell me which group of people is right without first hand knowledge? What happens if two randos on the internet give conflicting accounts of these 3rd party accounts? Man, gets thick quick Wink

Yet the stove is cold 99.99% of the time, sometimes the people who burn themselves lack key information or knowledge then scream about their bad results. Does not mean the information is useful or accurate, regardless of volume.

I've done a fair share of construction and woodwork over the years. I find it difficult to believe that a drill is going to turn fast enough for a decent cut. Better off with their 3 1/4" cordless planer.

Does it do the same job as a router, or other standalone tool?

I'd have to agree with the others on removing the door to do it. If you can't do that then maybe you shouldn't be DIYing. With this maybe if you clamp a straight edge to the door you can get a nice flat plane on the end of the door. But I was able to do the same thing with a table saw.

This is the correct answer. I was trying to figure out why anyone would use a tool like this. About the last thing I would do is alter a hollow core door, although I have done it in the past (once) with a circular saw and guide, and it was the thinnest cut I have ever made. laugh out loud
