I used to be a full-on headphoniacal collector. These are, IMHO, the pinnacle intersection of cost vs performance.

There ABSOLUTELY are better. However, not without spending significantly more money.

Widely recognized as one of the best deals on excellent headphones. Great detail and soundstage. The bass isn't as pronounced as bassheads might wish. But I second this poster; they will fit loosely unless you have a big noggin.

Great price for decent headphones. These are the most comfortable/cool headphones in my small collection. I do have a small head and they fit loose on my head.

At $61 these are a must buy if your looking to dip your toes into better audio.

Fidelio L1's can be had for around the same price these days. Definitely upgrade over the SHP's in build quality and in sound quality. Main drawback is that they're semi-open back instead of fully open like the SHP's.

Meh, I bought X2HRs from them in "like new" condition and it was the equivalent of what Amazon Warehouse would've called "good" or "very good" at best.

I got these 6 years ago for $60. I've worn them a LOT and they're still like new. I was tempted to get a new pair for if my current ones bite the dust, but that could be at least another 6 years

2 weeks ago I bought a set of HD 560S as a replacement for the SHP9500. I'm really liking the instrument separation of the HD 560S and music sounds great but they do have a bit more clamp force like you mentioned and the pads are warm IMHO. I just don't like the velour type of pads and I'm glad the Drop + EPOS PC38X I also just picked up has different pads installed and the velour pads are an included option.

I also tried a pair of Philips X2HR refurbs the last 2 weeks and I wanted to like them but the clamp force was also too strong at the top of my jaw. They had velour pads, were hot to wear and something about them hurt my ears (the bass?). They were well built but I had to send them back. Maybe there was a reason they were refurbs?

I got Philips Fidelio x2's as an upgrade. I still prefer the sound and comfort of the shp9500s. The x2's have been boxed for years.

I bought a backup pair of these when I stumbled across a Woot deal several weeks back and someone alerted me to the Behringer BC12 mic as a cheaper alternative to the V-Moda Boom Pro mic and it is fantastic. Essentially the same thing as the Boom Pro, similar functionality and sound quality, but about $20 cheaper. Highly recommend for any of you looking for an inline mic to pair with these headphones.

It's plausible as Sennheiser vocals don't tend to have a lot of energy and are more laid back. They call this the Sennheiser veil. I have it on a few and usually Philips headphones don't have this problem. Philips headphones all generally sound really good, energetic and are good All rounders. They definitely punch above their weight.

I had these when I was buying all sorts of headphones in the budget range. They got very little use and were the first to go when I thinned the herd. I think the budget champ is the Creative Aurvana Live for even less money. Those I hung on to, along with the $300 pair I also kept.

Currently use a Sony 7506s and XM4s but want to dip my toes in the audiophile space. Would this be a good choice or maybe just look into some Sennheisers or BD?

In my opinion these are an amazing can when they are on sale. They're also supposed to last forever, but I'm still considering buying a backup!

Great sound on these and as others have stated these are right at the performance for cost center. Never had issues picking up footsteps in games with these very comfortable, too comfortable for me though. These are great but be warned if you have a smaller head these will slip off if you lean forward or back, ended up giving them to a friend of mine. I got tired of them slipping off constantly so I ended up going with some DT-990 pros had those for 2 years now I'm on some ATH-AD700X which are very comfortable and don't slip off my head.

How do these compare in size to the Hyperx Cloud 2?
