It's 2 years Allstate warranty vs 1 year Microsoft warranty.

Wow, I think I might have to pick this up as I was eyeing the one on Amazon. The low amount of ram is actually a plus for me so I might be dissuaded from doing anything but working on the stuff I should work on when I bring this with me.

You can upgrade the SSD if you need more storage.

On the 3 the keyboard comes off without issue unlike the Alcantara on the 2.

alcantara looks great when its new, but with regular use oils stains and discoloration happen and aren't easy to clean.

What the hell are you doing at your computer? I bought the the SL1 new and the Alcantara still looks new. Nevermind, I don't want to know.

Initiated chat with Microsoft and agent says the battery is replaced. This same Surface 3 laptop refurbished is $517 on M/S website. Thinking about pulling the trigger.

Thank you this is good to know. I pulled the trigger. Seems like a perfect student laptop.

Thanks for that info.

The first thing my son mentioned when he saw the specs is that he'd need a bigger SSD. (starting his PhD in mech/chem eng and he wanted something small that's easy to carry around).

As a recovering Chemical Engineer grad student, please gently nudge him towards mech.
