I built a deck with this set, no problems whatsoever.

This set is great for the price. Since I bought this set 2ish years ago, I rarely use my 18v Makita stuff for small projects around the house. Lighter and easier to carry/maneuver with. You aren't going to build a deck with this set, but that isn't what you buy this set for. This is the set I always recommend for coworkers/friends wanting a first set

Great kit. Never pay more than $99 for this. Not because it's not worth it, it's probably worth every penny of the retail price, but because it reliably hits $99 at least 3-4 times a year.

I love this drill set. Small and lightweight, the battery lasts a shockingly long time. I use this for 99% of the work I do, and now only pull out my heavy-duty Dewalt drill when necessary (drilling holes in concrete, hole saw, auger bit drilling through old oak joists, etc).

So uh, how big is the Bosch 12v lineup? I see this deal pop-up on SD several times a year for the past few years but never ever on any other Bosch 12v tools. And what B&M retailer carries these? Lowe's?

Bosch makes good tools but they are limited in number and you do not see them on sale very often. Another poster provided a link to the Milwaukee 12V set for the same price. Milwaukee is readily available and they make MANY 12V tools. Here is a link to Bosch's tool lineup:

Strongly considering going with Milwaukee ...

Got these. Love the small form factor. They handle about 90% of work around the house. My only complaint is the directional switch is so easy to hit when holding the drill. I have big hands.
I've never tried the Milwaukee but I would consider them at the same price for this reason.

I own the 10.8/12v Makita kit bought for this price approx 12 yrs ago from HD. That thing does not die, well I don't abuse them and know its limitations.
These mini drills/drivers are handy and helpful especially when you're on a ladder.

A novice to tools. Is this better than the Craftsman set?

The Craftsman you link is in the 18-20v equivalent range whereas the Bosch is 12v...so it's not exactly a straight one for one comparison. The Craftsman will have more power but it will be heavier. The Bosch will have more than enough power to do most jobs and is lighter, good for tasks on a ladder or over your head. If you peruse the comments on any of the posting for this kit (there are many) you'll find several instances of people installing decks, cabinet installers, and general woodworkers using the Bosch 12v as their go-to kit.

Long story short, consider how you envision yourself using the set and decide what is best for you. I'd pick the Bosch for the reasons above and the simple fact I've owned the previous version for damn near 10 years and have no regrets.

I disagree. Brushless will perform better and more reliably long-term. Worth it if you're starting your tool collection. This is a decent kit but I prefer the Milwaukee M12 Fuel line which has been $120-150 on sale for similar tools.

That said, this is fine for $99 and if someone is just screwing stuff in or drilling a couple holes a year then I can see brushless not mattering. Just depends on use case.
Where can I get the Milwaukee dual kit for $120 - 150?
Thanks

My Bosch drill is over 12 years old and both batteries still hold a full charge. That thing is a beast.

I just recently started to replace some of my aging tools. And as a homeowner/DIYer, I want to suggest if you are starting to build a collection to seriously consider ryobi and ridgid. They have pretty much all the tools you will need and there are sales constantly. Ryobi day that we just had and the homedepot hacks pretty much give you cheap batteries and you can get the tools cheap if you are patient. Or you can sell the batteries for profit and keep the tools cheap or even free.

Another suggestion is that you should consider corded tools if you don't use the tool very often. They are cheaper and durable. I really began to appreciate my older tools now that I received the newer ones.

I really wish we can have a system where all tool manufactures conform to a single battery standard. This way tool makers compete to make better tools and battery makers compete to make better batteries. We can pick and choose different brands depending on our needs and budgets instead of choosing to join the dewalt tribe or milwaukee clan..etc. End rant.

The Milwaukee drills, both brushed and brushless have a distinct high-pitched whine when the trigger is engaged, which for me is like nails on a chalkboard. The rubber overmolding is a little more aggressively textured than the bosch, which can be tougher on the skin over the course of a long day, and the M12 battery fits in the handle with the wide side towards your palm, which puts more pressure on the webbing between your thumb and forefinger when drilling all day. The Bosch is slimmer towards the back which is more ergonomic in a standard hand position. The M12 brushed drills and impacts are very similar in performance to this set. The M12 Fuel line has similar power and weight to many 18v tools, which undercuts the advantage of running 12v class tools. YMMV whether or not these are significant or negligible factors.

How do I know? I run both systems. I use m12 for the extensive lineup, but I my primary drills in every installation kit, on my workbench and around the house are Bosch 12v.

I use them daily for work and have never had one die. One got run over by an SUV, breaking the housing around the battery in two places, but it continues to function perfectly otherwise.

Taking the topic further...if you're considering going brushless, the Bosch kit at $149 is absolutely worth the upgrade, but has been on sale for $129 as recently as a couple months ago. My absolute favorite 12v drill is the apparently discontinued Bosch PS32. The newer brushless GSR-300 has crazy speed and power in a teensy package, but it sacrifices some finesse and battery life.
