Good price, decent brand (a bit above Craftsman & Kobalt), but I vastly prefer an angled wrench. Flat wrenches slip easily.

I have always wanted a set of ratcheting wrenches but does anyone know how these hold up if u beat them with a hammer to break a bolt? Would that bust the gear
Hold on to your hat while we introduce you to a concept known as LEVERAGE. Throw that wrench-hammer in the bin!

I'm not sure about the overall quality. However, I think 90 tooth (kobalt) is better than 72 tooth (Ace).
Also the marking on the Kobalt seems to be better and larger. My personal opinion.
Kobalt is also $10 less (ymmv)

anyone know how these compare to kobalt [lowes.com]?
I have had this set for a few years, I would say they are much better than kobalt. I don't think there is much difference in the ratcheting mechanism, but I have seen the jaws on the open end of Kobalt wrenches visibly distort when applying a lot of torque.

Get one with a reversible switch, they are much nicer plus they have a slight angle to them, just fyi for anyone looking to invest in their first set etc.
What he said. These are knuckle busters. After a few skinned knuckles I replaced a set like these after a couple months.

Pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty
They do--if you have a copy of your receipt and are willing to wait until they can restock and ship. I bought a 13mm of another brand after waiting several months for a replacement of my broken one to become available?? Replacements ship from the OEM.

Whats the point of a 12pt ratcheting wrench? I've never understood this, why not just make them a 6 point since they can be rotated?
There are a few companies that make 6 sided (like SK X-Frame), but they are many times the price of Gearwrench

Tekton makes 6 pt ratcheting wrenches in both flex-head and fixed head designs.

I'm not an expert on these, but they appear to be the older 72 tooth design rather than their newer 90 tooth design. Not a problem at the right price if the quality is there, but reading through the lower rated reviews at Amazon, Home Depot, etc. dissuaded me from upgrading my current fixed wrenches to these ratcheting ones.

Depends on size of wrench and how hard you are hitting it. I have abused the crap out of mine and they all still work. I have hit them with hammers plenty of times but never Hercules style. I used my foot with a 14mm to break loose a caliper bolt and it didn't break. Mine are over 10 years old so maybe they were better then. I consider gear wrenches some of my favorite hand tools. Use them all the time because they are very low profile and always get the job done

I've had this exact set for almost 3 years, use it all the time. Most of the stuff I work on is metric so in hindsight, I should've bought a metric-only set with more sizes. I replaced shocks on my car recently - the top bolt was 19mm so I had to use the 3/4".

Also replaced tail lights and there is one nut behind the trunk panels in a really tight space and it took forever to remove because the swing arc is so wide. A 90-tooth would be better in this situation.

If you are working on cars a lot, what you want is a 6-point set. This set stripped one of the bolts on the end links and I had to take a Dremel to cut off the threads.

It's probably also a good idea to have a set of ratcheting and non-ratcheting wrenches because you really shouldn't be using ratchets to break bolts free. A better buy would be to get one of each in the measurement system you use most rather than buying one of these mixed metric/SAE sets.

But all in all, this set is decent quality.

I doubt the warranty covers beating it with a hammer. A warranty is for manufacturing defects.

Does this set come with the reversible switch?

I would go with the kobalt. The gearing system on both of these are weak. They both will break, but getting replacements will be easier at Lowes.

This is exactly what I am thinking too…

"Hassle-free lifetime guarantee"

No question, replace broken tool warranties are definitely a strong deciding factor.

Like this 24pc (vs 20pc for this deal ) on Amazon…

"Guaranteed forever: If, for whatever reason, you don't absolutely love your Jaeger Tools ratcheting wrench, just return it, and we'll refund every penny (Or replace it, if there is a problem)."
