It looks like all the movies were shot on film (35mm film has a resolution of 5.6K) but only the first two have 4K scans of the original film. Every other movie was scanned and mastered in 2K and then upscaled to 4K. So not the best resolution but they should still offer HDR and 3D sound (looks like DTS:X).

Price is pretty good, but I think only the first two are actual 4K scans.

Why would that be when the others came out after? Genuinely curious

I would add that the transfers didn't do much as far as HDR nor DTS:X on disc.

Since streaming is less in quality especially on the AQ side IMO there isn't a big benefit with these unfortunately.

I've seen a lot of deals in the past for disc but I only do streaming. This was the right price for me to finally pull the trigger after years of passing on deals. TU

My guess would be that after the 2nd film the special effects really kicked up quite a bit. VFX is usually the reason for mastering in 2K because it's cheaper and faster for the production studio. Though I am surprised they didn't go for the 4K mastering given how popular these movies were in their prime.

I have the BD set and we love HP but because of the kinda lackluster transfers I still haven't bought a set.

I'm currently doing the Vudu disc to digital from my Blu-Ray's for $2 each. The 4K digital copies, even the UHD disc versions, don't seem worth the investment from what I read on review sites. Only the first two movies seem somewhat worthwhile. If they ever do another release for these, might be worth looking at then.

Having and comparing both I completely agree.

Especially if you have a quality display, player & surround setup.

It's very unfortunate since HP had such good potential especially on the audio side! ☹️

I want to know when DTS:X will be offered with streaming movies. DA was been streamable for years now!
