Basically the same router as the AC68U and uses the same version of Merlin Firmware as the AC68U.

Differences are the AC1900P has:

1.4GHz processor (vs 1.0 GHz)
5 dBi (vs 3.5 dBi) antennas

I run Merlin and I don't need WiFi6 so I bought it just for those two differences

Feels like these should be a lot cheaper. Over 6 years old! These are ancient by today's networking standards. Good routers but…

On the flip side, I'm a customer that steadfastly REFUSES to pay $250 for a router, they can suck if.

I think this may be the cheapest I've seen it without it being refurbished. Killer deal if you don't care about AX/Wifi 6. Mine is 6 years old and still works like brand new. Never a hiccup. These also are easily modded with 80mm fans for extra cooling.

Maybe there's a reason? Still demand for them? I think I've seen more than one comment in these threads where users claim their newer routers weren't an improvement - Netgear Nighthawks seems to come to mind. It's all anecdotal but I think in general one should be cautious about assuming newer is better. Performance/quality are more than specs.

The price increases for wireless routers over the past 10-15 years has gone sky-high too...
For some reason, wireless router companies think they're in the same business as Graphics Cards as far as increasing expense.

The range of most devices has not increased that much either over the same time period. The faster they get, the less range they get...where the older standards still reach 300 feet...

Asus routers when in A.I. Mesh mode don't handle WiFi calling very well, disconnecting calls when a user gets switched to a different node. This can be fixed in the firmware, but doing so caused the CPU to do a lot more work, and the overall throughput on the wired network drops to about 300Mbps. I'm not sure how wifi speeds are affected. I assume the same.

There is a lot of bang for the buck here if you are upgrading to gigabit from older 10/100 equipment.

Recently upgraded from an r7000 (ac1900) to the rax45. The difference is minimal. Wifi throughput is about 50% faster but only near the router. Any walls or obstructions and even that drops. I tested everything extensively.

This is a version of the RT-AC68 which was one of the best routers couple of years ago but I think its days are gone. I still have one working for my family overseas but I suggest just spending a few bucks more and buy the RT-AC86U instead.
It typically pops up for 109-119 at amazon as refurbed. It is the successor of the 68 but much faster CPU and much better 5 Ghz coverage.

I think he's referring to the T-Mobile "version" fire sale that was going on for a while.

Yup. Bought 2 and converted them to stock AC68U. Thanks T-Mobile!
