I have the 3.0 and it doesn't work when I turn hotspot on my phone. Does the 4.0 version fix that?
Wireless Carplay and Android Auto both use wifi to function.... hotspot also uses your device's wifi. No, they won't work at the same time.

If you have Carplay/Android Auto, it should work.

I have this. People claim the connectivity is too slow, but it's not that bad. It connects within 10 seconds.

The real issue is there can be an audio delay of about 1-1.5 seconds. Obviously, this can make phone calls an issue. So it's not perfect, but it does work well enough.
Someone said you can adjust the latency

I got the 3.0 and its laggy and slow. Takes a while to connect and sometimes dont. I've had to disconnect it a few times as well to get it to work again. Wouldn't recommenced.

I tried the 2.0 version in a Mazda CX9 (2019) and had nothing but problems. System freezing, disconnects, stock system crashing while connected. Updated the firmware and it still happening, also Mazda updated their system but this device still sucked. I wanted to like it, what a waste of money and time.
I got the 3.0 for my CX9 and it works much better. In for the 4.0 int he hopes that it fixes latency.

Interesting, did you happen to try the 2.0 version in your car? Just worried about wasting even more money on this.

Ok, that does seem promising then. It would be for my wife's car and she got mad at me when it would constantly crash.

Check your car. If it doesn't work or compatible. No return or refund. I bought one last deal. Very disappointed

Rookie question: Would it work if my car originally didn't have OEM carplay (2011 camry) but now have wired carplay (through the Alpine radio aftermarket install)?

Edit: Nvm. It looks like it definitely doesn't work with my radio (Alpine ill-W650)

Considering the difficulty (or impossibility?) of returning this device if 4.0 doesn't offer significant improvements, I'm gonna pass. FWIW you can get it for $100 from Amazon right now with a clippable $25 off coupon, but I'm not looking to spend that much to put in a Kia. Looking forward to your reviews.

I've had loaner BMWs with the factory wireless Carplay/Android Auto. It works fine most of the time but is still not flawless. Maybe 1 out of 20 times I'd have to toggle/untoggle Airplane Mode to fix a connection glitch. My Service Advisor echoed the same, says that the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto platforms are constantly evolving and it makes life difficult for the manufacturer to maintain compatibility/reliability (especially on the Carplay side because apparently Apple doesn't give much advance notice of significant changes).
