I have an Asus TUF FX705DT which currently has two 8GB DDR4 2666 (M471A1K43DB1-CTD) and Asus specs say max is "8GB DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM, Max Capacity:24GB". Oddly I see Asus and retailers advertising it with 32GB. Will this kit drop down to 2400?

Speeds decrease as is necessary. I'm thinking of getting two of these, one for an HP with a Ryzen5, another to split between laptops with one soldered RAM and one slot.
I've used G.Skill a lot more often, and it's only $15 more, so I'm considering that as well.
