Doors swing towards their hinges. A door opening outwards would have the hinges on the outside, meaning anybody outside could pop the pins out and completely remove your door. Not too secure.

If this is serious... It's for egress purposes. Door can't be blocked prevent exit.

In the north where it snows, the doors open inwards, so that if it snows a lot you still can open the door and escape out....

In the south the doors open outward so that a hurricane does not open the door inwards with its windspeed.

Every school classroom should be equipped with this or something similar.
There's security devices that slide over the door close hinge etc.

why dont they build doors opening outward?
For homes, there's generally no building code that specifies the need for doors to open inward or out. Your choice.

There are considerations when a door opens over a stairway for safety.

For commercial buildings, doors generally open out for fire safety. https://moss-design.com/the-great...e-forever/

Opening in or out, you can get high security doors and locking devices that prevent entry.
Hinges can be hidden for outward opening doors, metal can be specified for the material, double/triple/quad deadbolts to lock (e.g. Two top and bottom, two on the side), etc.

Got one, my balcony door is drafty, if I apply pressure, it seals and this should do the trick to keep it sealed.

Here's a test for anyone that is still unaware if doors open one way or another - go to homedepot dot com, search for exterior doors. You will get left hand or right hand (which is where the hinges are located looking at the door from outside the house or room) and then it will say inswing, or outswing (which is what way the door opens). It's pretty simple, but here is a good page - https://www.harborcitysupply.com/...ing-guide/

edit* forgot to mention, codes vary from state to state, town to town, etc, so no, there isn't one set code for exterior doors. Also, they definitely have exterior hinges that you can't remove the hinges, and they are very common.

Also, thanks OP, I just picked up four of these. I have three sliding glass doors, and I never trust the locks on those sliding doors.

For sliding doors, I have been using a 1x2 or similar to block the sliding channel every night. It served well for over a decade. Of course looks ugly but this doesn't look clean either.. I have looking for options where I don't have bore holes in sliding door frame but found none..

I was going to say this but I couldn't have said it any better.

Used to depend on this w deadbolt. Forgot deadbolt once, and my ex laughed at this when it fell over letting her in.

Outswing Doors have hinges that interlock with teeth so even if you pulled the pin out you can't lift them off and separate them.

Not that it matters during a purge most Exterior doors are incorrectly installed, the 4 inch screw that should run through each hinge and jamb securing it to the rough opening frame is skipped. Instead the hinges just have the smaller screws 3/4" screws holding it in place on the jamb, making it the weakest point and easily kicked in

Does this really work? I've already changed the door hinge screws to 3 inch screws but I'm wondering if the security bars will be helpful?

Not necessarily. There are external pins which are secured and sealed unlike the usual hinges that you see in the inward-swinging doors.

The pins on the outside is the real reason as someone else said. As for your reason you could say the reverse that it opening inward if you open it and inch they could bull rush their way in. Which purge are we preparing for? Each movies a little different so I want to know what I'm preparing for😁
