I was honestly super disappointed by this stove compared to the old school models. All the camp stove manufacturers are in a pissing contest over BTUs and how fast they can bring water to boil, but things like precision and temperature control are forgotten about. Maybe I got a bad one, but this thing has basically two settings: off, and jet engine. I found it extremely difficult to cook food on this compared to my 20 year old, grease spattered basic Coleman stove.

This is cheaper because it is a cheaper build. For some reason, Amazon has the better latch and grate for the OP version of the Triton series.

And if you don't mind using a match, here is a similar version [target.com] from Target's version without the piezo push button deal for $30 cheaper ($48.49) with a lot better reviews. Not a Triton that is a bit gimmicky and steadily cheapened, they all seem to use the same knob valves that you turn and turn with the same fragile gas line connection.

While all are made in China, there are now many versions of Coleman stoves. Not so odd, 40 year old used ones in decent shape bring more money... especially the dual fuel.

Before you choose a propane stove, consider what fuel you'll want to use for a lantern if that is on the list too.

With propane, it's lighter, more convenient, and the flame maintains consistent pressure.

With the dual fuel lantern, it's more fun to use, it has a little bit of flicker like a candle, and you can source gasoline in a pinch if you don't have white gas (naptha). The fuel is cheaper overall with the dual fuel, but the upfront cost is a little more.

If you don't mind a little tinkering, you can find white gas stoves used pretty cheap. I got an '88 two burner stove for $20 that just needed to be cleaned up and a 60s 3 burner that needed disassembly and cleaning for $25. Those stoves really are Buy it for life products so long as you keep them clean and don't let rust take hold.

Propane is convenient but costs more in the long run. I usually camp for a week at a time and use about 2/3 a gallon of camp fuel. That's about 24h of lantern and 20 hot family meals for under $10. Unleaded gas would be even cheaper but you'll have to do maintenance way more frequently since it doesn't burn as clean. I would be using 5-6 small bottles of propane for roughly $25 otherwise.

If you look around you can find the Ozark Trail version at Walmart for $15.

I recently picked up a couple of them. Obviously this is an apples to oranges comparison being that Coleman is superior. If you need something for that one camping trip a year consider the Ozark Trail 2 burner.

Mine is sitting right next to me. Glad I was able to grab it. That sale was oddly short.

I bought one of these and tested it out with a couple Coleman propane tanks. There is a tiny hint of a blue flame that is just barely visible on the highest setting. Seems defective. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix?
