S7+ has an 865, not 765. The S8 shouldn't be that much faster. About 15% faster overall according to benchmarks. It's actually slower in 3D due to thermal throttling. It's manufactured on 4nm instead of 7nm (well, Samsung 4nm vs TSMC 7nm so probably more like 5.5nm vs 7nm), so power consumption is slightly lower. Meaning they reduced the heat dissipation package, which ends up hurting the Gen 1's 3D performance (it throttles harder).

I suspect a large part of the difference you were seeing was the S8's 2560x1600 screen, vs the S7+'s 2800x1752 screen. The S7+ has to push around 20% more pixels. Though the reviews say Samsung reduced screen lag slightly on the S8 (I couldn't really tell on my S7+ vs S8 Ultra).

Main differences are the S7+ has an AMOLED screen vs LCD on the S8 (though high-end LCD has gotten good enough you're unlikely to notice except when viewing in dark environments, or extremely rapid motion). And the S7+ is nearly 2 years old so will only receive updates til August 2024. The S8 should be good til Feb 2026. Both devices get Samsung's new 4-year update support.


S7+ supports WiFi 6. It doesn't support 6E (S8 does), but 6E routers are like $400-$700.


I'm not sure either tablet is best for gaming, but I got a S8 Ultra for piano sheet music so who am I to judge. Smilie

See my above comment about 3D performance throttling. A large part of the S7+'s better 3D performance will be canceled out by the higher number of pixels though. So I'd base the decision on OLED vs LED, and support til Aug 2024 vs Feb 2026.

Do note that Samsung's trade-in value for the S7+ has been $600 ($550 for an S8). So if you got it for $440 and wish to upgrade to an S8+, you may want to check if a trade-in deal gives you better value than simply returning it. Their deals frequently throw in a free keyboard cover. It and the stand are very nice (though they don't give much corner/edge protection). (Best deal was keyboard + max memory for free + heavy discount on headphones)

If you dont need the watch i rather take the 7+. You get the bigger oled screen vs lcd. Tab s8 gets slightly better performance but you probably cant notice it much

This is inaccurate. Had both tablets and S8 is superior. The new Gen 1 snapdragon is significantly faster than the 765 in the s7+. Was worried I would miss the oled screen, but could barely tell the difference and I prefer a smaller form factor. ended up selling the s7+.

No, Samsung.com doesn't. I just looked at their policy of things they do not accept as trade ins for the tablets and cracked screens is one of the things they do not accept. With the phone, trading in a cracked screen and the phone is still fully functional, yes they do. But not with the tablet.
