Yeah I've been eyeing this. Wondering if I should try this laptop or keep the legion 7 5900hx/3080 Walmart deal. Return window is ending soon for Walmart so I have to decide quick. screen brightness and 8gb vs 16gb vram have me thinking no but 12th gen Intel, pcie 4, and ddr5 are all solid upgrades over the legion 7

I would keep the Legion. More premium quality build, better screen and more powerful/better for gaming. 8GB Vram is already limiting factor on performance, so imagine in a few months/years with the new more demanding games, etc.

The stronger I7 CPU is obviously better for some uses as well, so is up to you what you want. If gaming is number 1 use for you, stick to the L7.

I think the 3070ti is pretty close to the 3080 in terms of performance because it's 150w+? (besides the vram) that's what makes it tough. but most games don't use it anyways just nice to have I guess.

edit: looks like tdp May be 165w for the 3070 ti

Keep the Legion 7 with RTX 3080. Pure gaming performance wise, I don't think 3070 Ti can beat a full powered 165W RTX 3080 in Legion 7. This definitely has better CPU performance.

Yeah may be close though plus extra benefits of 12th gen Intel and ddr5. Any idea of 3dmark scores on this guy?

This price tag was used for I9 with a top-tier laptop GPU before whole situations.
Since the market of GPUs is crashing, wait a bit more you will get far sweat choice.

No the TDP is 150w max for 3070ti, not 165w. timespy score is 12100

Thought it was 150w + 15w boost? . Hmmm I'm getting mid to high 11000's my legion 7 and around 9300 or so on cpu

The legion 7 is. The 3070ti is not. 9300 is low CPU score and it's lowering overall score. sounds like bad ram or messed up boosting, should be 10k+

Disagree on the build quality claims. The Omen 17s feel god-level to me, and I've gotten compliments on the industrial design at Starbucks before. Even cooler that you can't tell it's made by HP by looking at it unless you know.

I'll run some benchmarks when my Omen 17 3070 TI comes in, my guess is the Omen will actually win because of the unfair thermals and best-in-class thermal design on the 17" model, but we'll see.

The Omen 17 chassis is a carryover from 2021, and even the Omen 15's build quality is lower than that of the Legion 5 Pro [youtu.be]. The Omen 17 will necessarily have more flex than the Omen 15 (larger means more flex), and the Legion 7 is better built than the 5 Pro. Those are objective facts. So it's only natural to say that the Legion 7 is better built than the Omen 17. This is all supported by the fact that the Legion 7 is basically all metal, whereas only the keyboard deck is on the Omen 17.

I'm not sure where you're getting that the Omen 17 has "best-in-class thermal design." It's adequate, I am sure, but it's missing one vent compared to the higher-end laptops that have 4 vents. Furthermore, it is using standard heat pipes, whereas the Legion 7 has a vapor chamber.

I have no doubt that the Omen here will trash the Legion 7 in CPU tasks, but for gaming, I doubt you'll see significant improvements. The 3080 and the 3070Ti are roughly comparable, but the Legion 7 has more VRAM and more thermal headroom to avoid throttling cases.

I'd keep the L7. I keep looking to see if it pops back in stock.

Have you checked any reviews of HP Omen 17 by any chance? What you're doing is just trying to force your opinion by giving some illogical and irrelevant assumptions that since HP Omen 15 has flex, 17 will have more flex. What kind of logic is that? Omen 15 is the most budget option in Omen series, below the Omen 17 and Omen 16. Do check some reviews 1st before passing your judgments based on thin air.
