I drove for 20 minutes to a Best Buy the other day just to be told that my phone (Z Flip 3) was not on their trade in list, even though I said I did the same deal just a week ago at a different store. I argued for 20 minutes and didn't get anywhere, so the next day I went to a different store and got the deal in less than 10 minutes.
Not all Best Buy employees are trained the same, so don't be discouraged if one store says no, and just go to a different one.
Then, they may believe you but have trouble figuring out their system. When they pull up the model for the trade in, they have to go past the initial screen. When they do, the promo should show up. Then it's going to ask them for the promo code. That code is literally SAMSUNG. It's nowhere to be found otherwise.
I've traded in 3 phones under this promo because of the high values they're offering. Each experience varied.
1) First store did it without issue once I balked at the low trade in and mentioned the promo. He knew everything.
2) Second store couldn't figure out where the promo was and is responsible for the info I provided above.
3) Third guy refused, said they don't do trade ins and when shown the promo called his manager. Manager said Best Buy would have to be stupid to do this and refused. Lol. This was the same store as the first time, just different employees. Went to another store and they did it just fine.
Point is, the experience will vary widely depending upon the knowledge level of the employee. Just be polite and patient and stick to your guns. Most of them just aren't aware of the promotion or familiar with how to do it. One manager was so happy when I told her I thought I knew the promo code that she fist bumped me and thanked me profusely twice. Only one guy was a complete @$$.

However when he tried to order the phone for me, he had a heck of a time getting the right price to show. However he clicked until he added a bundle and somehow made it happen. Took about an hour but the guy really worked to make it happen.
Here are the two skus he added.

For me, at Samsung, S21U trade good or cracked towards S22U 256GB unlocked. With EDU/EPP. . .$166 + tax on only $166. . .is $181 after taxes for me. Bonus is $200 in CB, from the Hun. So better than free net to do that upgrade.
At BB, it's $99 + tax on $900 for me . . .$171. . .and no CB bonus. And it's the same net $171 whether I trade in an S21U or a $250 Z flip 5G or $500 ZF3, etc. so why use the highest value phone as the trade?
You also have to go into BB to get the trade in, which if you read around is a pain. . .if not the trade part, then the ordering part. I'm having to go that hard route to get cheaper phones the $800 TIV, but man I wouldn't be doing that battle if an easier online option exisited like for S21U trade.
But to each his own. If you have some BB GC or credits lined up already. . .possibly from ZF3 trades recently, or otherwise, maybe the BB tilts in your favor even trading in S21U. And then part of me says if I have a S21U I keep that as it still rocks

Thanks to all who confirmed that this needs to be done in store, I indeed was able to trade the z flip for 800 GC towards the S22 Ultra 256gb, now just need to wait the 1.5 weeks for phone to arrive.

But yeah, I get that move of dropping a gift card or ordering a couple of pizzas. . .but that is more feasible and less roadblocks when done at a TMO or VZW store, lol. But priceless sometimes lol
But this person I think was rather trying to leave feedback. And they already left the store anyways. I would mention your good previous experience with employee XXX with the person at the front door, many times an asst or MOD, and go from there . .might help them out more in the end than just filling out a form in store or online. . .
If I were you I'd ask a friend or family member who has service with one of the big carriers to get it for you. You can pay in full so it doesn't do anything to their account really.
I had to do my trade (z flip 3) and phone activation (even though they had to order it) in store, online the trade in price for z flip 3 was only $350, the promo gives up to 800 towards the purchase of an s22.
In my case I only paid $147 difference after trade and local taxes. Provided that I got the z flip at the $500 price (paid less after XR trade and rewards). This deal was an absolute steal!
This is really like triple dipping!
They just need to reach out to the right person to get it done, I don't work at bestbuy so I don't know exactly what they did but can just tell you what I heard.
