I drove for 20 minutes to a Best Buy the other day just to be told that my phone (Z Flip 3) was not on their trade in list, even though I said I did the same deal just a week ago at a different store. I argued for 20 minutes and didn't get anywhere, so the next day I went to a different store and got the deal in less than 10 minutes.
Not all Best Buy employees are trained the same, so don't be discouraged if one store says no, and just go to a different one.
Then, they may believe you but have trouble figuring out their system. When they pull up the model for the trade in, they have to go past the initial screen. When they do, the promo should show up. Then it's going to ask them for the promo code. That code is literally SAMSUNG. It's nowhere to be found otherwise.
I've traded in 3 phones under this promo because of the high values they're offering. Each experience varied.
1) First store did it without issue once I balked at the low trade in and mentioned the promo. He knew everything.
2) Second store couldn't figure out where the promo was and is responsible for the info I provided above.
3) Third guy refused, said they don't do trade ins and when shown the promo called his manager. Manager said Best Buy would have to be stupid to do this and refused. Lol. This was the same store as the first time, just different employees. Went to another store and they did it just fine.
Point is, the experience will vary widely depending upon the knowledge level of the employee. Just be polite and patient and stick to your guns. Most of them just aren't aware of the promotion or familiar with how to do it. One manager was so happy when I told her I thought I knew the promo code that she fist bumped me and thanked me profusely twice. Only one guy was a complete @$$.

I should get the 800$ right?
THen looking at the 256Gb cause they are the same price between the 128G/256B
Guess it would be a downgrade from my 512Gb that I got the deal from tradeins like a year 1/2 ago
Old Phone: S20 Note 5G
Got 800$ GC for it, (They did not have one in stock at the first BB).
Unlocked Phone: 899$ - 256G Black S22 Ultra

I was skeptical since most comments here were negative about incompetent or lazy reps at BB that the deal could not go through. Was there for about 25 minutes to trade in Galaxy S21U for a Galaxy S22U 256Gb [unlocked] version.
Told them "You guys have an $800 trade-in promotion for the S21U. I want to trade in my S21U and upgrade to the Unlocked S22U 256Gb with phone registration in store." Phone rep there (his name is RJ) was very knowledgeable and accommodating that he knew exactly what to do to get this deal done. He even knew the promo code "SAMSUNG" and trained another staff on doing it too. They authenticated my T-Mobile account and registered that new phone on site but could not activate due to phone not available in store. So I took my old SIM card back to use with backup phone until phone arrives Monday. Then will activate the new phone once received.
Total Out of Pocket: [$177.36 after taxes]. Phone to arrive this coming Monday, 06/13/22.
S22U Unlocked 256Gb $899.99
Donated $2 to foundation: $2.00
Taxes: $75.37
Subtotal: $977.36
S21U Trade-In Gift Card: (-$800.00)
Out of Pocket: $177.36
If I were to order this exact setup through Samsung, then I would pay a total of $222, that's with the additional $50 T-Mobile Online Activation discount (and trading in my S21U). If no T-Mobile discount, then Samsung calculated the total to be $278.
In my personal case, giving up my S21U used for 17 months and only paying $177.36 for the next version is a cheap upgrade cost. Financially, this S22U will have a higher chance of holding better value than the S21U once the S23U comes out. If you know what I mean. With inflation continue to hit our pockets, upgrading now at this price could help ease next year's upgrade compared to upgrading from S21U straight to S23U. Future trade-in value of S21U won't be $800 with Best Buy or $1000 (intact or cracked) with Samsung by the time S23 series comes out.
Went to another store in Manhattan and guy knew exactly what he was doing and got things done, printed and signed in all about 20-30 mins (Less if his site wasn't lagging)
$179 after taxes out the door for a T-Mobile branded Unlocked S22 Ultra in Green.
I believe the work around is that if you go the complete unlocked route they would not be able to stack it on top, but if you were to go through your carrier (Note it won't be for EIP) it should apply correctly as the trade in will be processed first, rep has gift card in hand and then applies it to the "Upgrade" transaction and then the rest paid via card.

Planning to rock one, and keep the rest for maybe a trade Fold 4 deal or S23Ultra Deal.
