The game currently averages less than 2,000 players on SteamCharts and still has a number of bugs that plague the experience (ex. if I am tabbed out when a game begins, it believes that I have text chat open and responds to no character inputs). Keep in mind that this is an exclusively multiplayer experience, there is no campaign to dive into. The best you've got is to queue online against bots in the multiplayer space.
To illustrate the level of support this game is receiving from the development team: there was a bug that would prevent players from aiming down sights after entering a vehicle, which was particularly brutal for their Hazard Zone (think Tarkov) game mode, where you had one life. It took them six months to resolve this problem. There wasn't even a proper scoreboard or in-game voice until about two months ago.
Admittedly, there is some traction on getting updates out now, but it really is too little, too late. They've swung that axe on the Hazard Zone mode and are now focused on rotational playlists to keep lobbies somewhat full. If there are ambitious plans from the studio to salvage what they have, I truly feel like their only recourse is to make the title free-to-play and then attempt to monetize a battle pass of some sort... anything less and I feel that the game won't be able to recover.
Payed $5 to try it on EA Play. This game had so many bugs that after 3 hours of play EA gave me a permanent ban stating that I was 'intentionally creating in-game bugs for other players and that violates their terms/conditions'. I was not able to recover my account with their customer service so now I cannot play any EA game online.

Agreed, I love it personally. I really don't get all the hate, amazingly fun game.
