i genuinely don't understand the hate for the google home app. everything works in it well, including nest/kasa/google devices. the only feature that i'd like added is for things to be accessible via desktop, and sometimes adding a device to a home is annoying, but the build quality of nest products is far superior to ring or other companies.
To those that haven't tried the app and get annoyed with this comment, trust me IT IS USELESS. I got the new battery doorbell and will be returning it after a day. The app SUCKS, the nest one isn't perfect but it's so much better. Dumb move on google. I would get this cam but not with that useless app.

Yeah I was looking at getting the battery cam, but they only made it work with the Google Home app, which is severely lacking features. Still using the Nest app here until they remove it. Then will invest in the Ring ecosystem to match the doorbell.
Luckily I can see utilize my nest app with my grandfathered cams. That's the only reason I have completely replaced my nest security system. The home app is garbage for reviewing footage and I can't seem to locate the facial recognition part. When we move I'll be migrating to a different eco system. Google isn't the move these days.

Damn, all this hate on the Nest Cams. Guess I chose correctly by going with Ring. At least this stuff works, albeit not with Google Home. Just got the floodlight cam for $170ish over the Memorial Day Weekend.
Any particular reason why? I'm in the market and weighing my options.
Nest used to be the leading company as far as cloud security cameras went. Very innovative and their product was years ahead of the competition. And then Google bought them. Been downhill since then. Stagnant and there is nothing impressive about the new cams. Not to mention, they force you to use the Google app which is just bad. A shame, I love the Nest eco system.
You might want to look at PoE nvr cameras. Local backup but still allow you to pull video remotely with phone apps.
Is this all new nest products? I really hate this.
basically all 2nd generation products (battery doorbell, battery nest cam, floodlight, etc) work only with Home app
I also have the high-end Nest IQ outdoor cam, and it's a total shock to see how it fails to detect motion at night when subject is more than 15 feet away
I guess I'll chime in and say I don't mind the Google home app. It lacks some features here and there (mainly router related for me), but otherwise it's capable enough for me. Curious what specific issues people are experiencing.
