Tried doing this deal but when I used code XLGPROMO it stated code not working
What are my options here to get the best bang for buck with 100% success rate?
You'll get your keys in the mail. I redeemed them all and put them in notepad.
I then go to the MS redeem page and put in the first code. It said you can do this and get 1 month free if you enable recurring billing. Accept this.
Then go to your profile, manage your subscriptions, disable the recurring billing for the xbox gold thing
Rinse and repeat, redeeming each code and then disable the recurring billing. Do the next one til all are redeemed.
Then go to the XBOX Ultimate page, use the special buy shown there for $1 (I had to pay $15 because we were members before), buy this and it will convert all your existing Gold months to Ultimate months.

If you buy one and redeem it and then go straight to converting to GPU, you will have the time you purchased as GPU, but if you go to redeem more Live time, you won't get 1:1 conversion since you will be an active GPU member already -- then the conversion rate applies.
Yes, 36 mos is the max.

100%: something about death & taxes
I plan to just leave it as-is for now and worry about it sometime between now and 2025.
Now I've never tried the cancelling subscription thing but I would assume, it's cancelling a 'paid' subscription, not 'prepaid'. So you really can't cancel until 2025 when you're out of prepaid sub since you're not paying anything until then.

What I don't get is how you cannot turn it off and giving you the cancel warning.
But I can assure you that you can turn off and still have an active subscription. It's been off that for a while now and still worked like normal.
I was a month-to-month Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. So I stopped recurring billing which gave me 2-3 days until today I could redeem my codes. I went ahead and ordered 9 (3-month) codes and then sat on them patiently for 3 days. Then today, I used the redeem with recurring billing on (to get 1 month free) then immediately disabled recurring billing. I did this for all 9 codes, which gave me 36 months of Xbox Live Gold. I then selected the Game Pass Ultimate upgrade, but mine showed as $14.99, not $1. I selected the $14.99 which it did charge me, but then it upgrades the remaining subscription (which was to June 2025 at this point) to Game Pass Ultimate.
So from a cost perspective I paid: $60.24 (9x3-month) + (9*1-month free) + $14.99 upgrade to Ultimate. = $75.23 to get 3 years of Xbox Live Game Pass Ultimate.
Next charge on 6/17/2025 for $70 total it was $70 because for some reason I had $5 credit with M$ no idea why. Or mine would've been same total as post above mine.
