I work in this industry. This filter technology is not new. This is basically a home version of what most laboratories use to generate deionized water. This is overkill for home use, as general consensus is that water with zero TDS is not particularly good for human consumption.

This filter uses a form of ion exchange technology. It captures TDS from the water and releases H+ and OH-, which ends up as H2O. This is not new, it is just marketing this for home use. In large scale applications you can regenerate the resin and reuse it. This appears to be pretty wasteful in just throwing it away.

One concern I have for this technology is that if you use this filter long enough the resin gets full and will start to release some of the contaminants it removed. I saw a comment from someone saying he uses this for arsenic removal, that is a situation that might make me think twice and be diligent about swapping these out before they reach breakthrough.
Been using these daily for years. Everything is better, ice, coffee, etc.

My tap water in LA has 395 PPM of dissolved solids, my San Diego house is 225. A Brita is around 85. My RO system is 28. Bottled water is around 60+, but they add minerals. This is literally ZERO.

Each filter lasts about a month, depends on how bad your water is to start with.

This should come with one filter, and probably a TDS meter. Basically making the pitcher free.

Drawback is the pitcher, water can spill out from the top. Better off with the countertop version, less refilling too.
Nope. It's only 1 filter. I bought the same one (SKU 864700811) multiple times before.

Don't trust the photo.

What if you add some manual stages to remove most of the TDS first.

Something like: mesh strainer first to remove large items, cheese cloth next, cheap Brita filter, slightly more expensive pur filter, and then this filter. That should make this filter last much much longer

That sounds like overkill. Is brita really that cheaper? Edit: it is cheap. Filter wise. Ig u could just use brita and then zero.

I feel like this is an example of cheaper in the short term, expensive in the long run. Over the years, wouldn't it be cheaper to get something on a larger scale like RO under sink system or even faucet attached systems?

When I looked at this stuff at the start of the vid, I basically determined that the most cost effective method was to simply get the Primo refills that you DIY locally. However, I wanted to limit my trips to the store so the RO system under my sink was just about the same price, but more "upkeep".

The tradeoff becomes: going outside the house to refill your water vs. maintaining the equipment. It's kind of personal preference but I absolutely loved having a water spigot at my sink 24/7, but that's mainly because for the most part I didn't care too much about the hot and cold features on a primo dispenser at home. But as far as cost over the long term, they're close enough that it is the other aspects that matter.

Britta is only $3. more and in a head to head review, Britta came out on top. Bonus is Britta filter as much less expensive. https://www.consumerreports.org/w...252480402/

Got 2 at target today. self check out with help of associate with printed coupon with no issue. Then go to regular check out with printed coupon, the associate wanted the web version instead of the print one. During the time the site had issue with coupon and I could only pull out the pdf version and she could not scan it. Finally she scanned the paper coupon since she said that I showed her the web version online, so finally got 2. Thanks.

I don't really understand the comparison to other pitcher filters. None of the other filters work so that's basically throwing money away. There's no difference than just taking water straight from the tap. This filter may be expensive, but at least it works. So would I pay $0.50 per gallon of water filtered through zerowater or pay $0.10 per gallon of tap water that I can get free? Choice seems obvious to me.

Can you guys comment on GE Reverse Osmosis under the sink system? Is it as good as these Zerowater filters?
