I have the $300 per year plan with 8GB data and I've been on the phone with customer service. They wont change my data to 16GB. I was on the phone with them 35min to argue. I asked for a supervisor and they hung up. I'm not giving up though.

I've been looking for a reasonable hotspot plan for some time. This sounds like possibly the best one around (even though it is not that great overall)

Does anyone know if the hotspot include the entire amount of data and not limited to like 5gb like most plans? I don't care about 5g, just need 4g. (it says yes, full data usage)

Also, I'm still a bit unclear on this whole 8+8 thing. You 'do' get 16GB a month on the same line correct? Not just 16GB if it rolls over. It's really 8+8 (and possibly up to additional 8gb rollover for a month).
Hotspot data is used the exact same as regular data it just draws from the pool you have.If you need to use hotspot from time to time, this is the best plan for the cost (perhaps besides highly depriortized Visible) as it just takes away from your general pool. There is no hotspot bucket...mobile internet/hotspot is treated the same.

I cannot say for sure but in the past on the 8GB plan and the walmart plans they treat the bonus data as NON rollover and how rollover it used.

Firstly how does rollover work?

Say you have the old 8GB plan and you use 5GB at the end of the month you have 3 GB left over. 3 GB "rolls over" to the next month, and your dashboard will say 11GB. However this is the catch. ATT deducts the new month 8GB first and unless you use that entire 8GB it does not go into the "rollover" data". So say the next month you only use 4GB you will have 7GB left but only 4GB rolls over (only one month). If you use 9GB it will say at the EOM you have 2GB but 0GB will roll over because you used all of your high peed data and the 2GB just goes away.

The Walmart bonus plans there was the 8GB "base" plus the "bonus". Again like all other plans the base amount is always used first and then and only then if the 8GB was fully used would it go to the "bonus" data. Bonus data has ZERO rollover, it is just there for a buffer in that month that it is added.

Now I have seen no T&C where it says this is a 8+8 plan but if it IS, then I would expect it to work like the Walmart plans (always uses the base data FIRST).

Now in the SIM order page is says 16GB of high speed data it has no bonus language so to me it sounds like typical AT&T system issues but what I say about rollover still holds true. AT&T is notorious for doing stuff like this and bonus data can be an issue in the first month as evidenced by a ton of my friends that were on the walmart 25GB plan with WRITTEN 17 GB of bonus data.

After multiple people and countless hours with AT&T's tech support, I finally got someone to refund the remaining 10 months of my $300 8GB/month prepaid service; at least that's what she said, I'm supposed to get a refund 3-4 days from now but who knows if they'll actually do it. If it goes through I'm getting this $300 16GB/month plan; very dumb how they can't just modify my current 8GB plan and add the extra bonus.

The 8GB plan has "up to" 16GB/month with the rollover data. This plan should have "up to" 24GB/month correct?
You will get your refund. I did the same, the third representative gave me the refund, while the first two refused. In fact I received the refund the same day. I ported out my number to T-Mobile $10 plan..will probably wait a week or so and port back into this 16 GB plan. Hopefully it works.

Does anyone know if AT&T locked phones work on any AT&T MVNO?
Red Pocket is a excellent MVNO. I'm using a AT&T locked phone with them.

If I'm a regular AT&T customer (post paid I guess?) does switching to prepaid count as being a "new prepaid customer"?

If you port your number to google voice, you can take advantage of these deals. Then just call forward to your number. ATT will give you a new number each time but eh. It's easy to call forward. Thats what we currently do. Once my plan is up I plan on signing up to get the higher rate.

Anyone know what the cheapest prepaid provider would be for a child who only uses the phone when on WiFi and to make Facetime calls?
For Facetime you want "data" to be reliable, so whichever carrier works best for that in your area. I made the mistake of switching from an AT&T MVNO; Freedompop (now Red Pocket), to Mint Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO). T-Mobile worked great for making calls and texting in my area, but "data" was always being deprioritized; making video calls almost imposible to make most of the time. Now back on AT&T, I'm having no issues whatsoever when streaming video. For some people it's the other way around. I also recommend Red Pocket, just choose the right carrier SIM (AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon).

Thank you, that gives me a little hope. Before switching to this $300 8GB/month plan from the $240 10GB/month Mint Mobile one, I ported to Google Voice. Luckily I don't have to worry about the AT&T number as I don't even use it.

AT&T told me that in order for a number to be ported in; and be considered a new line, I either had to wait 60 days, or get a different phone number. Things change and policies get updated, and sometimes not even the employees themselves know the rules, so you might want to double check with them. I know I will.

I have heard about the 60 days, but have also heard of people porting out and in back within a week to avail new offers. So I guess will just have to try my luck. I would be pissed ,after going through all this hassle, if they don't renew at 16 GB next year and say the 8 GB was a promotional bonus,

I guess this is what some people were warning me about; the inconsistencies with AT&T. Oh well, double the data is double the data Lol. Let's hope it works out.

$40 it no longer exists and it required you to buy a phone and wait until the bonus data showed up so you couldn't swap the SIM. Also there were many activation problems. I would not recommend it, this deal is better unless you need more than 16 GB. If you would pay $40, spend the extra $10 and get 5G and the max plan (IMHO) for $50 and 10 GB hotspot.

The biggie on this is no 5G, but ATT 5G isn't really yet a difference maker.

No and it also goes for Cricket so YMMV. In the past they would also exclude many ATT MVNO so please check first. I get around this by using my GV number for 15 years and I could care less if they give me a new number, nobody knows that at all. This is not as nice for Apple people tho. You can port out to TMO or Verizon MVNO and play the game.
