Easy for an average handy person. The only thing you will need to buy about $150-250 in tools to do it right. Mostly just a vacuum pump, and guage set and adapter.
I have heard of people doing a DIY install and calling HVAC company to "check for leaks" and they take care of it at that time. Not really sure what all that involves but word is much cheaper than a full install.

If you don't have a drill already, you probably aren't capable of installing this yourself. Now a 3" hole saw, not everyone has.

Has anyone added one of these to a second story of a house? I work remotely upstairs and it gets pretty hot upstairs. I hate cranking our central AC as rates hit 27c per whr between 3-7PM and I see no reason to cool the entire house when I just want the bedrooms cool upstairs.

For anyone who has, what's the cost savings like with these? Or am I better just getting a portable AC unit to use for those 2-3 months in the summer?

I've only been going to school for 5 years directly related to this field, and work full time also in this field.

They lost me at, "Using a water-in-pipes analogy"... Any electrician knows this is a joke analogy. This person does not understand how electricity works. I encourage you to please do more research. I am open to more comments/links from you, but please, not from this joker.
240v allows you to run less amps on a circuit to get same power. Power/time is energy = joules = kwh (for this analogy). On a 120v circuit you would need more amps, true, but the power consumed is the same. So the energy over time is the same. You would need 6 or 8 awg wire to do this on 120v which would cost as much to install as the unit. Hence, dumb. Nothing to do with electric company

These designs differ, in that the expansion valve is located at the compressor, so your gauges won't tell you the whole truth when it is filled correctly. Translation: there is no high side vs low side pressures to indicate fill condition.

I apologize. I'm an electrician. The 208 will greatly reduce your energy bill because it uses less amps. Same price and uses less on the monthly bill
lol, you are incorrect. The cost to operate will be essentially identical as watts are watts, the only delta varies by the efficiency of the windings in the motors and the circuitry of the logic boards as to the minor variance. even still it would be pennies a year in difference. That savings could be on either the 120v or 240v model. The watts (W) is equal to the powerfactor (PF) times the phase current I amps (A), times the RMS voltage (V)

Sold out while trying to check out. Looks like the 220v is around the same price.

Could be not enough air flow.
If it freezes up, that usually means that your unit is light on refrigerant.

How hard are these to install?
not easy. Took my handyman a day and he causes a Freon leak. Cost hundreds to fix. He is usually excellent

Windows units will less efficient than split and windows units are really noisy. At this price I would just get the split.
The new u shaped window units I read are basically minisplits though? And super quiet. You can get the medeia or however you spell it, 12,000 btu, for 300-400 on sale.
