They removed the backup at original quality (except for the OG 2016 Pixels). Backup at storage saver (compressed quality) is available for life for the Pixel 2 - 5, but not for any newer Pixels after that.

Google is the backup and also great for browser your photo. Don't worry, the part not mentioned is backup to 2 source on the computer side.

I'd be careful of the 5a. I have had a Spigen case and tempered glass on it and I have had 5 broken screens. I am not the only one with this issue. And Google does not stand behind their products. I would stay far and away from the A series.

Google never gave out unlimited original images to everyone.

They gave everyone that uploaded web browser, IOS devices, Android users the free unlimited High Quality aka Storage Saver aka compressed images and videoes and they canceled/stopped that last year in June 2021 with exceptions of pixels lineup.

Pixel 1 - has Unlimited storage in original quality for life
Pixel 2, 3 HAD Unlimited storage in original quality for the first 3 years of their device life which ended in 2021,2022 then becomes unlimited storage in Storage Saver only.
Pixels 2,3,3a,4,4a,5 - Has unlimited storage in Storage Saver aka Compressed.

Pixel 5a,6,6a Doesn't include unlimited storage.

I have spare 3a XL that I'm using for the unlimited photo/vid storage. I can transfer photos and vids from iPhone 13pro max to the 3a and it will upload it. I should probably get a pixel 1 but w/e.

It makes a lot of sense, I use onedrive picture backup on my phone that syncs to a pixel 1 that has sat plugged in untouched for over 2 years... All my photos get backed up ful res for free regardless of the phone I use.

I beg to differ regarding banking apps. I have been cut off from mobile banking for a "not recent enough" Android version. They asked about that in particular.
